Who will be the Niners new DC?-Rooney Rule Now Applicable

Kyle is always heavily involved. Same under Saleh and Ryans. But to what degree, I'm not sure. But you can bet that won't change now esp. with a new internal DC. Kyle runs...

Every HC has say on both sides of the ball…Kyle is no exception. He's not suppose to be doing all the game planning on both sides of the ball, while the SC sits there an picks his nose. That was not the case with Ryans/Saleh.

It depends. Some are heavily involved like Kyle, no matter the DC. Others don't even look to that side of the bench (Reid). But we know Kyle...he 🏃‍♂️

Lol at thinking Reid has no involvement in that, or any HC for that matter.

Examples of his heavy involvement (unlike Reid) when DeMeco or Saleh were coaching here?

And saying Reid has zero involvement is silly.

His 2 previous DCs are now HCs and the one he fired was minutes away from winning SB just a couple weeks ago. If he has been involved then his resume's only been enhanced,...so what's the fuss about?

Lol why is stupid stuff like this even entertained? I'm all for opinions,...but does anyone here seriously believe a couch potato here could better decide how to manage the DC spot than Kyle?

Dude's just trying too hard with this worn out "I should really be our team's GM" postseason theme that just never connects.

Man I can't take Staley's one yr as a DC in LA (during a Covid year) seriously.

I'd rather hire a internal guy over him

I think, and Kyle will never let this happen, and I can't remember which way it was when George Seifert was the head coach didn't they kick him out of offensive meetings or was it Bill Walsh was kicked out of defensive meetings,

You'd rather have an internal guy that wasn't good enough last season. I don't get why we're rushing. Yes, I wanna know as quick as the next person does. But we are the only team looking for a defensive coordinator how many college coaches are there how many former DC are there that we could go through before we pick the right one screw in an internal guy. The only guy worth it doesn't want it. So if you go internally you're getting somebody that wasn't good enough last season and is second or third choice internally

Brandon Staley seems to be the favorite from what I've been reading. I can't get pass Raiders wrecking them for all those points and the bone head calls as a head coach.

Knbr is talking like Kawakami or someone thinks it's ulbrich.

but then maiocco will have news once he lands in Indy for the combine?

Pretty sure Maiocco doesn't have anything.

If he did, it would be news already.

"Sources indicate that the 49ers are narrowing down their decision. An announcement could be made soon."
- someone with sources

My source says it will be announced sometime between now and the start of the season. He's been dead on from previous reports. Like he called we would either trade Trey Lance or keep him. He also said we were either going to pay Deebo or trade him same with Nick Bosa. Dudes never wrong

I commend the front office for keeping a tight lip. We hate it as fans since we want to know what's going on, but not having any real information come out is a good sign.

Yeah so much different than the Baalke days. Those were the if there's smoke there's a f**king inferno days.

The leak was Baalke. He was a cancer. Always looking for guys in the draft with blown knees.
Staley over Mortenson easily. Mortenson has limited experience as a DC. Its a no brainer.

all mentioned by others but:

You just have to hope his job as HC doesn't represent what he'd be as a dedicated coordinator. We've seen countless examples of this: Spags, Josh McDaniels, Norv Turner to name a few. These guys were bad as HC's and so were their units of specialty.

The other enticing idea behind Staley is he could be a longterm solution if successful, because it'd be hard to envision him getting a second opportunity to be a HC at least anytime soon.

Don't think Baalke leaked to dadgum yahoo my friend.

looks like it's going to be Staley or Sorensen.

Feel like Sorensen would make more sense. I read somewhere that he was helping Kyle with the defensive planning more than Wilks was.

WTF? Kyle was doing the defensive planning and not the DC? Wonder why he wasn't fired sooner if that was the case, never heard of that s**t before from a HC who is also the OC lol

If Sorenson developed that game plan against KC, just hire him now.

The word is that Kyle and one of the defensive coaches came up with the game plan, not Wilks.
