He was so bad as a HC it would scare the s**t out me… even knowing he had success as a DC. I believe that was basically one year anyway.

Just from the outside perspective he seems like such a complete jackass.

That's the way I thought of him also. Arrogant.

100 percent. Know it all, but actually know very little. Unaccountable.
I think they are going to stay in-house and maybe hire a guy like Bullocks. He's been with Shanahan and his S's have either developed well or experienced a resurgence on our team. He's been around both Saleh and Ryans so exposed to their mentalities and schemes. It makes a lot of sense.

Mike Vrabel on his defensive scheme (2018):

"I have a philosophy defensively that we're going to have coverage consistency and we're going to have front multiplicity. We have great players. We're going to introduce our coverage concepts to them, that's going to remain consistent throughout what we do. And then we're going to have guys up front that may be geared toward to an under-defense, an over-defense, three-down, five-down – multiplicity in our front. So it's coverage consistently, front multiplicity."

I love coaches who are multiple and can adapt. Probably my only real criticism of Kyle is that I think he is rigid and absolutely married to his philosophy. Not ideal normally, but at least he's great at what he does.

What does Ron Rivera run?

Maybe a 4.7 or 4.8

I didn't realize Brandon Staley was available. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the guy. He runs a scheme that Shanahan originally wanted when he was first hired.
which one?

Staley has worked w/ Fangio in the past.

That would be the worst. Players hate him, has a huge ego, and demands respect instead of earning it.

I think if they were going to hire him, it would have been done last year. I'm fully expecting an outside hire.

Won a Super Bowl as a DC and that's good enough for me!!

No he didn't. He was already coaching the Chargers when Rams won. He was only the Rams DC in 2020.

If just based off that list

BB easily (pipe dream)

Vrabel for sure

Rivera is basically Wilks

Staley is a joke

My pick would be Vrabel, if not a very close second Iowa's Phil Parker (he's a DC for them).

Iowa had a terrible offense all year and their defense got them 8 wins. And they aren't no powerhouse defensive SEC team. I hope we at least interview him and hopefully he has an itch for the NFL.

Me too, but it won't be the big name suggestions imo. I think it will be a current assistant working in the scheme we want to run.

No idea who, but that's what I'm expecting.
Brandon Staley had only 1 yr as a DC for the Rams after Wade Phillips left and already put his fingerprints on there... The Rams didnt even want him back this year...this is the same situation when Wilks took over for McDermott. Brandon Staley hire would be a big mistake.
