So… we don't want to change anything philosophically, but in the same exact press conference, we're looking to evolve.

That pretty much confirms what I already knew but nobody wanted to hear: this team has no clue what it's doing.

Sounds to me more like they saw what teams like KC and Baltimore did to Shanahan's offense attacking the tight splits, motions, etc. and want to find ways to adopt those things while maintaining their core defense.

Makes logical sense, but who do you think is the best candidate for that approach?

Jeff Ulbrich and Mike Vrabel.

I wasn't all that high on Ulbrich at first but I'm starting to hope for him with the way things are now going. Plus the Jets defense was excellent in 2022-2023 (albeit dead-last in 2021).

Just talking about scheme, I think Bill/Vrabel are multiple enough that they can work with what they got. I don't think the same can be said of Staley.

No. Staley is a Vic Fangio disciple.

Well just like what Hero says, it matters more what gap responsibilities they had.

I highly doubt they made Donald 2 gap… but who knows.
