So… we don't want to change anything philosophically, but in the same exact press conference, we're looking to evolve.

That pretty much confirms what I already knew but nobody wanted to hear: this team has no clue what it's doing.

Sounds to me more like they saw what teams like KC and Baltimore did to Shanahan's offense attacking the tight splits, motions, etc. and want to find ways to adopt those things while maintaining their core defense.

Makes logical sense, but who do you think is the best candidate for that approach?

Jeff Ulbrich and Mike Vrabel.

I'm hoping for Ulbrich or Vrabel as well. If not one of them I would prefer Sorensen or Bullocks over Staley, and that isn't counting for any under the radar interview.

I wasn't all that high on Ulbrich at first but I'm starting to hope for him with the way things are now going. Plus the Jets defense was excellent in 2022-2023 (albeit dead-last in 2021).

no Staley, Bill or Vrabel more than likely with that info

Just talking about scheme, I think Bill/Vrabel are multiple enough that they can work with what they got. I don't think the same can be said of Staley.

Didn't the Rams use a 4-3 in 2020?

No. Staley is a Vic Fangio disciple.

Well just like what Hero says, it matters more what gap responsibilities they had.

I highly doubt they made Donald 2 gap… but who knows.

Check this starting at the 3:00 mark. The video title is specific to the LAC defense and its personnel, not the scheme.

Tldw: they play 1.5 gap. His early LAC defense failed because they had a bunch of one gappers that weren't one gapping.

Yes. If we got him it would require either the Jets agreeing to let him out of his contract, or some form of negotiation where maybe we throw them a pick or something.

Let's not. In five minutes, the Jets will own Deebo, Armstead, and our entire draft. But maybe we'll get Sauce back!

Sorensen or bullocks lol? I gaurentee they are not the best out there. Out of old head coaches experienced coordinators, college ranks etc. these guys were passed up last season for a reason. They were not as good as Wilkes. They would be a downgrade. They aren't even the first choice internally lol

If Shanahan is gonna go with a first year DC, I hope its Chris Kiffin. I want someone who has coached the front 7, Kiffin has coached both D-line and LB.
