Either way I'd be happy to have him back with the 49ers.

Yeah a few of you said he makes the most sense.

In a way yes, but also make sense, but I guess he wasn't ready last year either? Regardless I hope whoever it is works out well.

He just spent a year as the defensive passing game coordinator so be was likely more heavily involved with the defensive gameplanning than in the past.

Why would the Jets even let Ulbricht come for an interview, let alone leave to join another team in the same job? It simply won't happen.

More than likely won't BUT reasons such as him going home, coaching for the team he played for, knowing that NJ is a sinking ship and that whole coaching staff is getting canned in a year. Toss in the fact that the HC is a defensive guy. He won't get the recognition he deserves there…simply put it's basically a promotion looking at it from that standpoint. just a better opportunity if he wants to be a HC.

it's not really apples to apples but we did it for McDaniels with Welker. Fangio basically did it this yr….maimi and him "mutually parted ways" dude was hired by Philly within 24hrs 🤔

Interesting - just saw that Ulbrich was a/the linebackers coach for the Falcons during their 2016 SB run.

This sums up in a lot of ways why I am inclined to hope that the Ulbrich rumors to be true, however unlikely that may prove to be. If it turns out to be Sorensen, then I guess I can live with that. I just want no part of Staley.

So basically since he interviewed elsewhere and didn't get hired they moved on? This guy moves a lot. Feels like demeco is pretty meh on him to me, no thanks (not to mention he wasn't good enough for the Fins)

Thoughts on that? Thought they were more focused on non DB DC, but if he's anything like Spags sign me up

Always good to poach from your #1 impediment.

he's been their db coach since 2019 and has obviously been fantastic in that role.

I like it.

I believe he's coached LBers at one point. He's been Spags right hand man got 5 SB rings. Sign me up

This news is brand new but the initial reactions from Chiefs fans is "please don't take him" which means he's good apparently.

Merritt has coached every position group on defense: DL, linebackers, and secondary. I could definitely see him as a valid candidate. 52 years old, 25 years of coaching experience, but no DC experience though.
