Very interesting.

This would be the best hire out of all the prospects so far in my opinion.

If you can't beat 'em, steal 'em!
I'm good on all the internal guys they passed over last year. I don't want any of them hired

Looks like he was Spags' left-hand man except for the Rams. Was there for both of the Giants Super Bowls and all the Chiefs Super Bowls.

Kyle asking for hints for next go around with KC

Thoughts on that? Thought they were more focused on non DB DC, but if he's anything like Spags sign me up

Always good to poach from your #1 impediment.

he's been their db coach since 2019 and has obviously been fantastic in that role.

I like it.

Has he been fantastic?

Well, look how Snead and McDuffie played for them this year. He also played a role in developing Mooney Ward of which we have been benefiting from the last two years, so I don't think that saying he's fantastic is much of a stretch. As long as he had a solid plan for the front seven Id be down to hire him.

Yah if anything I thought it would be Brendan Daly.

Hire Merritt and bring Daly with him.

Ulbrich if they can pry him away from the Jets would be my favorite hire. Merritt then one of the internal guys>>>>>>>>>>>>Staley

I wonder if it's too late for me to get an interview? Is Meritt familiar with the wide nine?

Was part of that NY defense that ran a 4-3 in NY with a nasty DL. He's a former NFL LBer as well.

What don't you like about his body of work in that role?

My only question is why he hasn't been a coordinator thus far? He's apparently a very well respected DB coach, won multiple SBs with the Giants, won three with the Chiefs thus far but he's never been a particularly hot name to be DC. Even when Spagnuolo took the Rams job he didn't bring this guy along.

So what have all these other teams being thinking that no one has yet seen fit to make him a coordinator despite an impeccable resume?

It's extremely rare for someone to have been an assistant as long as he has and to go on to be a coordinator. Even more rare to have success doing it.

Well, to be fair, Vance Joseph had to wait 16 years for his opportunity too.

Which isn't helping the case much.

Guys that are on a coordinator track, tend to get there within ten years. Seeing a coach that has been a 20 year assistant but has never been a coordinator makes you wonder what teams including the 49ers haven't seen in him before.
