His comments were last week well before the interview. It's just that they're now re-surfacing.

Everyone saying Staley wouldnt be a good DC because the Chargers weren't a good defense when he was the head coach, what about when Marvin Lewis was head coach of the Bengals? I'm not for or against Staley but i dont take much stock when one of these good coordinators fail when they get their shot at HC.
One positive about Staley is longevity, since no team will poach him for a HC job.
Also, Spags was 11–41 as a HC and is a darling now as DC.
