Who will be the Niners new DC?-Rooney Rule Now Applicable

Wasn't that the guy who didn't even know who Aiyuk was after the superbowl? Likely he was coasting of Spags' nuts.

Spags left to coach the Rams and they stunk. Meanwhile Merritt stayed with the Giants and they won another Super Bowl without Spags
If Staley gets hired, he will be fired within 5 games into the season and replaced by Bullocks or Sorensen.
Wow that Merritt story woah. I guess he won't be coming. Maybe he was already told no go so has no issues firing off. Look I love honesty. Bring him.

Weren't his comments after the SB?

Dude called Shanny out on his BS playcalling and inability to call a good offensive game.

He just went way up on my rankings for who should be DC, certainly higher than Bullocks or Sorensen.

I hope Kyle hears this. Bring this guy onboard.

His comments were last week well before the interview. It's just that they're now re-surfacing.

I see, but still. Good stuff.
I don't think Merritt said anything that Kyle would disagree with. If anything he threw more shade at Aiyuk than anyone by f**king up his name.

Everyone saying Staley wouldnt be a good DC because the Chargers weren't a good defense when he was the head coach, what about when Marvin Lewis was head coach of the Bengals? He was the DC for that great Baltimore team that had arguably the best defense ever but when he became HC of the Bengals i never remember the Bengals being a great defense in his tenure. He finished in top 10 in defensive yards only 4 out of 16 years as HC of the Bengals.

Were you impressed with the Broncos defense under Vic Fangio? I wasn't.

I'm not for or against Staley but i dont take much stock when one of these good coordinators fail when they get their shot at HC.

All valid but my concern with Staley would be that he supposedly played favorites and alienated players during his time with the Chargers.

One positive about Staley is longevity, since no team will poach him for a HC job.

Also, Spags was 11–41 as a HC and is a darling now as DC.
Staley better be on top of his game with the possibility of Saleh being available next year.

Merritt is still the best candidate out the interviews we have had with no play calling experience. Bullocks maybe but Sorensen brings nothing not even continuity

How do you know Sorensen brings nothing? Do you know what his defensive philosophy is or how he envisions running and calling a defense?

Yeah, I don't think those comments were as inflammatory as people are making them out to be.

this was Rex Ryan on Staley, from ESPN:

I think he should go back to Division III football where he belongs,"

"Look, this guy. Look at his resume, man. I mean, I'm sorry. He spent one year coordinating a team that my wife could coach with Aaron Donald and all those guys," Ryan added.

"Stop it. And trust me, she'd do a hell of a lot better job than this guy's doing with his defense.

Rex Ryan, come on down...send Staley to the landfill in Milpitas so he can manage waste!

I guess you see why he's only been a DB coach for the last decade. He definitely ain't getting the DC job here. Dude really called BA "Aiko or whatever." The disrespect.

If Staley is hired I guarantee you he'll be better than Wilks. Which means he'll last the season at least.
