Lynch said by the end of the week. Today we probably hear something

When did he say this?

Shanahan on Monday said he expects to have it wrapped up by the end of the week, not Lynch.

They are suppose to talk to one more outsider correct? Merrit is one, who will be the other?

There was a rumor from one of those iffy Twitter accounts saying we were talking to Marquand Manuel from the Jets. No idea how legit that is.

My god, it's looking like Staley and Sorenson are thee two best choices out there, judging from what they're bringing in or rumored to be bringing in. What is it with all these DB coaches, where's the LB and D-line coaches at, Chris Kiffin and Brendan Daly. Both have coached LB and DL and I thought that's what the 49ers wanted, better communication with Warner and the LB's?

Personally I'm hoping for Merritt (assuming there are no other hidden candidates). And his talk show segment isn't a minus for me.

By all accounts he'd be a very good hire.

Absolutely. Enough of the Shanny boot lickers. How about someone that will think for themselves and hold players accountable…

I think it is possible to get that with a guy with a DB background, provided they express an emphasis for it , and display a better plan for the front seven than Wilks did.

Shanafans: Kittle's fault, not Kyle's…

Da f**k you talking about? My god your comments are the worst.

what you don't think kyle had Kittle running any routes? Get open Kittle. Brock read the defense properly. This isn't Madden.

jesus man quit trying so hard with the I hate kyle s**t…it's f**king embarrassing.

So, you are saying it's Kittle's fault, not Kyle's?

I never understand why our fans are so quick to blame the Kyle or the players when the offense struggles. They never want to give the opposing defense any credit. Fans forget that all these players are good enough to be in the NFL. They get paid to do a job whether it's on offense of defense. Sometimes one side performs better than the other. Sometimes it's just about matchups. This constant blame game gets really old.

There are usually a handful of reasons any given game doesn't work out in ones favor, but blaming one person puts a nice convenient bow on everything. The buck traditionally stops with the HC, so he gets the brunt of it I guess.

Maiocco just said they need to do one more Rooney interview still. That would seem to mean that it's not happening today.

Well, this guy (Merritt) is out at DC.

You all do realize this was a casual talk show that took place at least a week before the interview, right? Why would his comments on a casual talk show from 7+ days ago suddenly take him out of the running?

I swear you all just let journalists and the media control your thoughts. Just because they found an interesting old talk show segment that anyone could've looked up doesn't mean it's suddenly news/relevant

Casual talk show or serious press conference, I don't even think his comments are that big of a deal. So he's brutally honest about our offensive performance and pointed out that Wilks' firing had something to do with the season as a whole. We've known that for awhile now. If anything the only "red flag" is he didn't know how to pronounce Aiyuk's name. But when you dig deep and study X's and O's so intensely, it's not out of this world to think he knows our players more by their numbers than names.

A little string bro, public facing behavior matters, a coach spouting ignorant sounding trash talk isn't a good look. Just facts.

True, I just trust a LB or D-line coach more and I think they would get more out of the front 7. I'd just hate to see the same mistake again, because with the talent the 9ers currently have there's no excuse for not getting pressure.
Shanahan: So what would be your focus if you were given defensive coordinator job here in SF?
Merritt: I'd focus on building around around those guys, you know, Frank Walter or whatever and Neil Bobo--that white guy.

send that boomer clown back to KC.

I never said this takes him out of the running. I was saying what he said in that interview was correct. Our defense played fantastic up until losing Greenlaw and Wilks had no answer. Then at the end they were gassed and Wilks was calling vanillas plays. The offense was way worse overall imo.

That being said, while I believe Kyle welcomes constructive criticism, if he were to hire him he would def not want that aired out publicly

He was a FA for a hot sec. They let him play out his contract before giving him an extension

Listen to the pod earlier. Would have been wild
