Who will be the Niners new DC?-Rooney Rule Now Applicable

Member Milestone: This is post number 1,500 for Monsterniner.
Brandon Staley is a 3-4 guy right?
If it's not an inside hire, they 99.9 % already got the call and gentleman's handshake on the new hire But first the Rooney rule

If Schwartz is truly not extended, then he is the absolute perfect fit. A wide nine guy, and a strong track record of success just about everywhere.

There's nothing to support it. Standard assistant contracts are two years and with as quiet as the Browns have been, you have to believe that he's locked down for at least another year.

Correct. 1.5 gap scheme. This style of defense has been around 3-4 years and OCs are beginning to figure it out. In the run game, it's about gap scheme runs and inside zone. In the pass game, it's about muddying the look for the pass defenders that are being asked to make postsnap reads.
No to Staley.

I think Bullocks is the obvious choice don't you?
Considering that they past him over last season for wilks it would be a pretty underwhelming hire.

Unless they realized that they should've hired him since Wilks, even with his better resume, wasn't what they expected

He now has learned off 3 DCs and is part of the reason why some of the DBs got better

Think it could be mentioned that if they realized they should have hired him in the first place, he could have been promoted in some form or fashion in season.

A coach like Vrabel will have his own defensive ideas which he will want to implement. He is not going to listen to Shanahan to change to comply with the 49ers status quo defensively. And after seeing Wilks being scapegoated for the SB loss, it will be harder to attract quality DCs with experience. I think this will likely be an internal hire.

Tony Romo called him out in real-time during the SUPERBOWL broadcast. He deserved it.

Perhaps, that makes sense for sure

If not him, then I kinda feel like the sign is already in place but after Rooney rule...can't just say I like you a lot then divorce in less that 24 hrs

I'd guess that really would turn off some potential interviews.

For some reason it really seemed like Romo wanted Niners to win and/or had bet on SF

Another thing to consider, maybe the team thought Daniel needed another year or two of seasoning. The guy is still relatively young at 40. The biggest thing I think he would have to answer is how would he operate to operate the front seven/run D? If it's similar to Wilks the Niners might have the same problem. If it with more of a Saleh/Ryans influence, that could work. The fact that he's been on the staff since the beginning gives me hope that it would be closer to the latter.

Does the Rooney rule apply to HC candidate's and assistant coaches? I thought it was only HC hiring's.

2-Jim Schwartz----wide-9 expert and Kocurek's mentor
3-Mike Vrabel----HC'ing experience but he'd only be here 1 year

I really like Schwartz but getting him away from Cleveland would be a tall task.

Schwartz would be my first choice if they could steal him from Cleveland.

I'm stumped I'm really not sure, I thought it applied to DC / OC too

Absolutely the latter. Also, he got a few tips from Wilks (the good ones)
