Ok so I didn't know Staley ran a 3-4 defense, yah I'd like it if they stayed away from that too. But doesn't Vrabel run a 3-4 defense too or does he run a hybrid??

Someone who will pick the absolute perfect times to run stunts and blitz from all positions, disguised. Someone who is in love with watching tape of the team you're facing and the tendency of the OC for said team. I don't care who just that kinda of Coach bc it has to come with instincts. Also Kyle has said it needs to be someone with a LB background.

He would be awesome. Like Spags, he knows how to rattle Kyle.
If you can't beat them, sign them?

Yea he's the DC's version of Josh McDaniels.
Why would anyone want Staley after watching him throw players under the bus and whine and blame everyone else for his screwups.

Wasn't Staley hybrid?

I am glad they are hiring someone new for DC. It may not have been all on Wilks, but they couldn't go into next season status quo. They needed to bring in a new energy somewhere and this was the best unit to do it for because it wasn't going to be on offense.

Thing here is I don't know if Kyle will hire an ex HC.
Anthont Lynn
He just was hired by the commanders
His point is that Lynn was a former HC that Kyle brought in.
Steve Wilks has quite the resume. It was reported that Shanahan had quite a bit of respect for him prehire. It may have been a scenario where the 49eres were hoping to fill DC while also continuing to play the compensatory pick game and hoping Wilks would get hired right away while having Bullocks still on staff to hand over the reins to this year.

Kyle still probably has a lot of respect for Steve. Just because the fit wasn't quite right doesn't mean that has changed necessarily.

I don't think they hired Wilks for the comp pick game. Nobody had hired Wilks last season and it was pretty late in the game.
Could have just hired Daniel Bullocks last season if they were playing the comp pick game

100% agree. He just wasn't a good fit. I believe Kyle when he says it had very little to dow with Wilks.

1st time coordinators don't normally land HC jobs after 1 year. Wilks players were reported to be openly campaigning for him to be the hire in Carolina. Maybe the 49ers felt with their personnel he'd be a shoe in?
