Who will be the Niners new DC?-Rooney Rule Now Applicable

I actually don't hate the idea of Lynn. He's really young but also very experienced as an assistant and what he did with that UCLA defense last year, taking them from 89th to 11th in the nation was damn impressive.

The problem is he will be gone in a year or two as a HC

All jokes aside that is a luxury Reid enjoys swith Spags. He's great at what he does, but since he failed as a HC, nobody really considers him anymore.

Listening to the HAM pod and one guy he tossed out there is D'Anton Lynn. Anthony Lynn's son. He's currently the DC of USC. He was the DC UCLA and his statistics had that D rolling (and that's with Chip Kelly and his offense).

he's coached under Rex in Buffalo. Coached under Wink in Baltimore. Romeo Crennel in Texas.

I watched every UCLA game, Lynn is a very intriguing option, with a bright future. He turned an awful defense to #11 nationally in 1 year. Only weird thing is that USC hired him away and then hired a co-defensive coordinator, but maybe it's because Lynn is young. But it's definitely worth a look

3 NFCC's
2 Super Bowls

Keep crying!!!

Yet after 7 years I still see the same old 5 Lombardis.

If you see more tell me where they are

KOLOHE counts the 2nd place trophies both from the NFCCG and Super Bowls..

So does your mom.

danggg.. u wanna go MOM way?

did you ever find your mom at the Lahaina fire?

I am kinda enjoying this. I actually agree with Kolohe. I seriously doubt any other GM HC combo would have done any better in the past years. Ultimately, guys need to execute. Burford said it was his fault. Period. Bad luck that Jon got hurt. Bad luck that Dre got hurt. Bad luck on the punt ricochet. Bad luck that half a dozen of KC's fumbles managed to bounce back into their arms.

Games aren't gonna be coached or played 100% perfect. IMO, KC wasn't really better, they were just luckier. Is what it is.
I would like either:

Bill Bilacheck
Mile Vrabel
Ron Rivera
Pete Carroll

Let them DC for 1 year. Then when Kyle fails next year, the DC can replace him.
Am I the only one who doesn't want Vrabel? His defense in Houston was awful in 2017 and that was the only year he was DC. I would give him a chance if we hire him but I would rather go with someone else.

Belichick and Carroll are both over 70. Not sure they would be interested. If they are I would pick Belichick. Vrabel might be okay but he'll leave for the next HC opportunity.

I hope Kyle has someone in mind that he may have talked to. I don't want them to settle for "some guy"

In fairness to Vrabel, they had a bad defensive roster, best player was Clowney, then Brian Cushing who was suspended for 11 games. then nobody.
Belichick is the best DC by far. That's always been his thing. He wasn't a great HC as we've seen when he didn't have Brady. His drafting was terrible. However when it comes to designing a defensive scheme there is no one better. He already has a lot of money so that wouldn't be an issue. Becuase of his age he's probably not looking for another HC job. The question would be does he want it.

Vrabel skill is being a leader. Kind of like the guy we just fired. So i don't see the 49ers going that route again.
I hope they at least talk to Sherm

Sherm wants to coach he would have to start as an assistant DB coach. He doesn't get to start off as a DC

Lynch skipped a few steps. It's all about your supporting cast.
I honestly don't get this enthusiasm for Belichick. The guy is in his 70's and was the head coach of one of the strongest dynasties in the history of the league, so why would he want to go back to be a DC in the first place. He is also a brusque, tight-lipped, seemingly, unpleasant guy who is used to having complete control over football operations. I don't see how anyone can think he would be a good fit here personality-wise, regardless of what his past resume looks like. I think there is also a legitimate question about who was really responsible for the twenty-year run in New England. Belichick had failed in Cleveland and then he failed in New England as soon as Brady left. There has to be a younger, more dynamic option, than him available.

Kinda a big difference between a GM and DC

Belichick knows defense. At 70+ he isn't likely to get another hC job. If he wants to stay in football, what better place to come. He can just concentrate on what he loves and hopefully go to another SB or two. He wouldn't need to control all parts of the team. Just defense. He was one of the few coaches that could slow down Bill Walsh and Montana.
