I honestly don't get this enthusiasm for Belichick. The guy is in his 70's and was the head coach of one of the strongest dynasties in the history of the league, so why would he want to go back to be a DC in the first place. He is also a brusque, tight-lipped, seemingly, unpleasant guy who is used to having complete control over football operations. I don't see how anyone can think he would be a good fit here personality-wise, regardless of what his past resume looks like. I think there is also a legitimate question about who was really responsible for the twenty-year run in New England. Belichick had failed in Cleveland and then he failed in New England as soon as Brady left. There has to be a younger, more dynamic option, than him available.

Belichick knows defense. At 70+ he isn't likely to get another hC job. If he wants to stay in football, what better place to come. He can just concentrate on what he loves and hopefully go to another SB or two. He wouldn't need to control all parts of the team. Just defense. He was one of the few coaches that could slow down Bill Walsh and Montana.

I think your point is valid, but I still see it as a fat chance. He may take a year off and then see. BUT, the man LOVES football, so that means something.

3 NFCC's
2 Super Bowls

Keep crying!!!

Yet after 7 years I still see the same old 5 Lombardis.

If you see more tell me where they are

KOLOHE counts the 2nd place trophies both from the NFCCG and Super Bowls..

So does your mom.

danggg.. u wanna go MOM way?

did you ever find your mom at the Lahaina fire?

I am kinda enjoying this. I actually agree with Kolohe. I seriously doubt any other GM HC combo would have done any better in the past years. Ultimately, guys need to execute. Burford said it was his fault. Period. Bad luck that Jon got hurt. Bad luck that Dre got hurt. Bad luck on the punt ricochet. Bad luck that half a dozen of KC's fumbles managed to bounce back into their arms.

Games aren't gonna be coached or played 100% perfect. IMO, KC wasn't really better, they were just luckier. Is what it is.

@OnTheClock

I find your message to be very classless.

Are we not all fans of our beloved team?

We are human beings and this is a public forum. Just because we are here talking football doesn't preclude us from SHOWING each other RESPECT.

If I was granted the title of "Hall of Fame" I would be the definition of class. You should hold yourself to a higher standard and represent the Webzone better.

I have a feeling, Pete Carroll, Bill Belichick, Mike Vrabel, Brandon Staley or Ron Rivera will be the DC. I just don't think these guys wanna sit out the season and what better place to have success than a team coming from a Super Bowl. I also have this feeling that Carroll and Belichick are on the top of Shanahan's wish list, Carroll for the system Shanahan prefers and Belichick because hey he's Belichick.

I didn't say I thought that Belichick would be the guy. I only said he would be my choice if he wanted the job. That's a big question. He may well want to take time off or maybe just retire. He may not want to move to the west coast. Lot's of factors to consider.

Maybe Kyle has a young coach that he sees as a good candidate. I don't know. I'm against bringing in any guy that has never coached just because he was a good player. They need to have some coaching experience at some level. I hear Whitner's name thrown around but he hasn't coached at all. Good players don't automatically make good coaches.
My guess is that he goes internal (Bullocks)

There's a better chance Buddy Ryan is our DC next season than Pete Carroll.

Sherm wants to coach he would have to start as an assistant DB coach. He doesn't get to start off as a DC

Yep, just because you were a great player, doesn't make you HC material right away- look at Mike Singletary
Pete Carroll would be awesome. Bring him back as DC!

I don't see the fit with this locker room, that style of coaching, the old school drill sergeant, i don't think young players nowadays really respond to that anymore which is why we're seeing fewer and fewer of these hardass type coaches in the game.

Players, including several still on the roster, disclose just how difficult it was playing for Belichick. "It was brutal," Matthew Slater said. Rob Gronkowski described pulling up to 1 Patriot Place and not wanting to get out of his car to go into work. Wes Welker compared Brady to an abused dog for continually going back to work for Belichick.

That would suck. And another sign that this organization isn't serious about winning a Super Bowl, only losing them.
I have a feeling a lot of you will be disappointed.

Thing here is I don't know if Kyle will hire an ex HC.

Anthont Lynn

He just was hired by the commanders

His point is that Lynn was a former HC that Kyle brought in.

Steve Wilks has quite the resume. It was reported that Shanahan had quite a bit of respect for him prehire. It may have been a scenario where the 49eres were hoping to fill DC while also continuing to play the compensatory pick game and hoping Wilks would get hired right away while having Bullocks still on staff to hand over the reins to this year.

I don't think they hired Wilks for the comp pick game. Nobody had hired Wilks last season and it was pretty late in the game.

Could have just hired Daniel Bullocks last season if they were playing the comp pick game

1st time coordinators don't normally land HC jobs after 1 year. Wilks players were reported to be openly campaigning for him to be the hire in Carolina. Maybe the 49ers felt with their personnel he'd be a shoe in?

I don't understand why Kyle isn't allowed permission for this to have been a mistake hire?

He's only really hired internally so far, and the first time he went outside it didn't work.

BFG. Come on.

Yeah, I just don't see us going with a coach who hasn't been at least a DC in the past, since we are definitely in Win Now mode, and probably won't want to go with an inexperienced DC.

This is who I hope we hire. Has experience, knows our system well. High energy guy, and he'd love to stick it to Seattle.
