The only problem is the game is not played on a whiteboard...More often, the scheme and plans were too layered and complex for the players to grasp and execute consistently. Players detailed how Staley and his defensive staff would try to build in answers and rules for every minute facet of opposing offenses — every route, every motion. At times, players said, this bogged down the unit as a whole...Staley's inexperience was exposed in this stubborn commitment to a defensive vision that simply was not working. There was a disconnect between how some players wanted to play and how Staley wanted to play."
Not promising at all. It's totally weird the Rams didn't rehire him as well. Don't shanny and mcvay talk at all?

Bringing in Staley means a complete re-work of the current scheme for the front 7 players as they adopt new techniques, and the offball LBs have new way of reading the blocks in front of them. I don't think this is the way to ensure 2024 gets off to a good start.
This is why I don't think it will be Staley. It would be almost a whole new makeover on defense.
Outside of that the way he operated reminded me of Adam Gase with the Jets.

Probably thought it was better to just promote from within. Not sure the 49ers have an obvious internal candidate.

Yah he doesn't sound like a coach that will fit in either. Its gotta be Mike Vrabel, not my first choice but I would be happy to say the least.

FYI being a head coach and DC are different jobs requiring different skills.
Based off the quote you provided, looks like he's not great at either

Kyle and John should trade a comp pick or two to NYJ for Jeff Ulbrich

Is he the actual play caller? Because if not they can go after him still.

I like the young names being thrown around. Chris Kiffin, Chris Harris, D'Anton Lynn, and even an experienced guy like Marquand Manuel. It's gotta be a dream job with a front of Bosa, Hargrave, and AA.

I agree. He lost his Chargers team. His players weren't playing for him. If the players won't play for him, doesn't matter how good his schematics are.

Some of these names are gross. This 49ers' team is aging and aging fast. The window with this group is closing. I'd be surprised if they had more than 1 or 2 more legitimate shots at a SB with this group. I don't think Kyle should be looking for some random young DC to learn on the job and hopefully develop into a good DC. This isn't 2017 when they were building the roster from the ground up. This roster is built to win now, and they need to strike the iron while it's still hot--for now. He needs someone with championship experience that he can hand the defensive keys to and not worry about. Someone that comes in and takes over the defense from day 1.
Shanny has to find a way to bring in Belichick--either as DC or an advisor. That's the move to be made.
I'm telling you, everyone dreaming about Belichick is going to be disappointed.
He may seem like the most amazing possible hire on paper. In fact, I would argue he actually is. But it's extremely unlikely he steps down from wanting to be a HC + GM to being a DC + Assistant HC. Plus, him and Kyle in the same office every day and on the sideline together could be a ticking time bomb waiting to happen at any moment.
Bill Belichick's mind as DC on this team would be instant favorites. But you're not getting just the mind. You're getting the ego too.
That's why Jed needs to go behind the scenes and guarantee Bill the top job is his once Kyle botches his chance at glory, which he obviously will
