Who will be the Niners new DC?-Rooney Rule Now Applicable

I like the young names being thrown around. Chris Kiffin, Chris Harris, D'Anton Lynn, and even an experienced guy like Marquand Manuel. It's gotta be a dream job with a front of Bosa, Hargrave, and AA.

Very good call and I totally agree.

Some of these names are gross. This 49ers' team is aging and aging fast. The window with this group is closing. I'd be surprised if they had more than 1 or 2 more legitimate shots at a SB with this group. I don't think Kyle should be looking for some random young DC to learn on the job and hopefully develop into a good DC. This isn't 2017 when they were building the roster from the ground up. This roster is built to win now, and they need to strike the iron while it's still hot--for now. He needs someone with championship experience that he can hand the defensive keys to and not worry about. Someone that comes in and takes over the defense from day 1.

Shanny has to find a way to bring in Belichick--either as DC or an advisor. That's the move to be made.

I'm telling you, everyone dreaming about Belichick is going to be disappointed.

He may seem like the most amazing possible hire on paper. In fact, I would argue he actually is. But it's extremely unlikely he steps down from wanting to be a HC + GM to being a DC + Assistant HC. Plus, him and Kyle in the same office every day and on the sideline together could be a ticking time bomb waiting to happen at any moment.

Bill Belichick's mind as DC on this team would be instant favorites. But you're not getting just the mind. You're getting the ego too.

That's why Jed needs to go behind the scenes and guarantee Bill the top job is his once Kyle botches his chance at glory, which he obviously will

Lol, Bill ain't taking a demotion.

If Kyle decides he's the best man for the job then I am all for it

I'm not against this move. Yea the guy sucked at head coach. So did Spags. So did Schwartz. Some guys are not head coaching material but great coordinator material. Staley did well in his time with LA. You know he's not getting a HC job anytime soon so he'll be a long term addition. And his propensity to take chances will be good for a defense that boasts speed and power.

If we use HC resumes to hire coordinators, then Spags and Schwartz would have been jobless…

Yikes… bring back Wilks lol

FYI being a head coach and DC are different jobs requiring different skills.

Based off the quote you provided, looks like he's not great at either

He had a top defense in LA

He did for 1 season and got lit up and bounced in the divisional. I'm just going off of the quote you posted. Did that sound like a ringing endorsement to you?

He also thought Wilks was the best man for the job,but I think you have to give him the benefit of the doubt given his track record of hiring assistants.

I am not saying he is the perfect candidate but probably the best they can get at this point.

Yeah I know. Just worried about some of the leadership, or lack thereof, qualities I've heard rumblings about. We shall see

Would love sherm but it won't happen and honestly it shouldn't be show go through the ranks slower if it's the route he wants to take with his career.
Pete Carroll. Runs the scheme, brings some energy and sticks two middle fingers up to Seattle. Not sure how many HC jobs he'll be in the running for with his age. DC might be the next step. And the last time he was a DC was in SF. Time to come full circle

Sherm would take the job, but he said he wants to be a GM. I bet he's hopeful he can be the next TV to GM guy like Lynch.
