Who will be the Niners new DC?-Rooney Rule Now Applicable

Seeing that Brandon Staley only had one year as a DC and then had a s**tty ass defense with the Chargers, I'd take a hard pass. Chargers had some talent on defense too and so I don't know how such a supposedly great defensive coach would have such a terrible defense. I'd stay away from the guy and I sure hope they hire someone else.

Steve Spagnuolo was DC with the Giants for 2 seasons. They ranked 7th and 5th. He was hired in St Louis to be the head coach, goes 10-38 in 3 seasons with defenses ranked 29th, 19th and 22nd. And after this year people think he should be in the HOF as an assistant coach.

Spags career is an outlier and not the the norm tbh.

Weren't they legit the worst team in football when he signed up? They drafted Bradford at 1 and then he did what he always does and got hurt.

Dude had a couple years to build his scheme, which requires certain guys. That NY D was full of studs on the DL. They actually called holding back then lol.

Staley comes off as a tool imo. I don't think he's a culture fit either. Also if Kyle is looking for someone that actually calls a similar scheme that we've run in the past. Not sure why he rolls with Staley? also I'm pretty sure the Bosas' aren't a fan of him.

Feel like it will be a young up and coming defensive mind that has some roots within this scheme.

I want no part of Staley tbh. He gives me the heebie-jeebies.

100% I think the one universal truth nobody here will debate is it doesn't matter how good or bad a coach you are, you need a qb and that position is a pure crapshoot. Once you have the qb now we see how the rest of the team really is.

This roster was built half backwards since we found the QB last, but we are fairly loaded. They just need to find the right DC for sure while upgrading the trenches.

I am all for a young mind as well. Kyle needs a defensive coach who can challenge him on paper x's and o's.

Bilacheck, Carrol, Vrabel and Rivera would fit the bill.

Bold strategy
Brendan Daly, LB Coach for Kansas City. Another under the radar option who'd probably be a great fit.

Please no first year DC's, need to get a big name in the house. I'm thinking it's gonna be Mike Vrabel, maybe Bosa could be pulling for him with their Ohio St. connection and I think he'd be a good fit. I just don't know much about the defense he runs. Belichick would get everyone excited, but it's a longshot that Shanahan can pull that off. Pete Carroll being a San Francisco native, I could also see taking the job and also would be coaching against his old team.
I'm hoping to get a DC that can bring a new approach. The wide 9 had it's moments but I prefer a more aggressive approach with more disguised blitzes. I say this because it's easier for an offense to adjust in the 2nd half if they know they're going to face that same basic look every play. I like coaches that change it up and keep the offense off balance.
If they went with a first timer, I like everything I've read about Lynn.

"I have to say Rex Ryan. I played for Rex. I was a scout for Rex. And I was a coach for Rex. So he kind of got me into the league, and a lot of the things that I do, a lot of the way I see the game always comes back to him. Gus Bradley is someone who had a huge impact. I think he's just a phenomenal teacher — super, super detailed. I was only with him for a year, but that year I was with him I grew a lot. And then, you know, Romeo Crennel, Wink Martindale and Mike Macdonald. Those are the next DCs I was with and I feel like each of them had a different impact on me. And you know, I take a little bit from everywhere I've been and, just very, very thankful and grateful to have been exposed to those types of coaches."

"You know, you want versatile guys up front who can align in different spots. That way you can get into different fronts without having to sub. You need certain types of bodies on the edge. You need certain types of bodies on the inside where you can move those guys around. So if we want to go from a four-down front to a five-down front, we don't need to sub to put a bigger guy in. We have the personnel where we can just go ahead and do that with the guys we have on the field. And then from a linebacker and secondary standpoint, same thing. Versatility, football instincts, guys who are very passionate and love football."

He literally sounds like a Shanahan of the defense, an absolute wizard in the making. Culturally, he wants everything Kyle wants in a player. I seriously would love to bring him in here. Of course, I think he probably would get snatched as a head coach before long too though.
Narrowing down to 5 from my original list:

Daniel Bullocks
Nick Sorensen
Brendan Daly
D'Anton Lynn
Chris Kiffin

It's gotta be one of these guys, right?
Pete Carroll taking our DC job would cause some aneurysms in Seattle.

I agree that Staley seems like the front runner.

Everyone who coaches the 9ers defense will be a HC sooner or later, shoot even Wilks got a HC interview before the Super Bowl.

Remove kiffin for sure
I'm a little surprised that we haven't heard anything about interviews yet. I'm sure they're happening.

Man I think I would like that. Give me a young fired up DC. Vrabel would be cool, doubt he comes in as well

I zero chance of any of the old guys coming in to be a coordinator.
if D'Anton Lynn is a legit candidate, you'd think his dad wouldnt have bailed to WAS
