Of all the negative things to call Staley I wouldn't say gutless. Dude was Dan Cambell before Dan Cambell

I don't see Carroll here, but they could go after one of Pete's guys, like Kris Richard. Or Arron Curry. I think it will be internal, like Daniel Bullocks. Two other names I can see Kyle going for is Chris Harris or Cory Undlin

When did Kyle coach defense?

Yeah I don't see where he had a job on that side of the ball

When he was a quality control in Tampa Bay. He learned under Monte Kiffin. You guys know who Monte Kiffin is, right?

Shanahan had been an assistant at UCLA for just six months when he got the opportunity to go to Tampa. Upon Kyle's departure, his father, Mike, then head coach of the Denver Broncos, offered some advice.

Even as an offensive coach, Mike Shanahan told Kyle to focus on defense, and the understanding of offense would naturally follow. The idea was that the younger Shanahan would gain a deeper understanding of why a certain play would be run and what could work in certain situations.

As a low-level offensive assistant, Shanahan's primary function was to draw up every play being used in that week's game plan. Every Tuesday morning, he'd arrive to a list of about 140 drop-back pass plays Gruden had left for him, turn on some Lil' Wayne and spend the next 10 hours drawing those plays on a computer.

After that first year, Shanahan took his father's advice to heart. It didn't hurt that he was working at a place where defense was king and the coaching staff was unafraid of offensive interlopers.

"He was in a little cubby hole, and he was working on offense, and he would have the door cracked so he could listen to our defensive meetings, and we were talking through the defense," Kiffin said. "He was just a sharp young guy."

Despite the competitive environment between offense and defense, Shanahan was soon welcomed into those defensive meetings, and he sat with the staff nearly every day after practice. Tomlin, Barry, Morris, Kiffin and Woods never batted an eye at having him around, teaching him the finer points of the Tampa-2 scheme. They also gave Shanahan their tip sheets, and after games he would watch the defensive game tape.

Those two years in Tampa -- and his fellow coaches' willingness to help -- set the stage for Shanahan's ascent up the coaching ladder.

"That's what's been kind of the foundation to me," Shanahan said. "That was the most important thing in my whole career, I believe."

Lol dude seemed to have massive grapefruits
I always believe that Kyle always include himself in the defense coaches meetings and have the final approval of the defensive game plan. It's just that with Wilks somehow there's disconnect and there were many moments that they were not in the same page.

Too bad Jim Johnson isn't around anymore. He was kind of like Spags before Spags. Mastermind on disguising blitzes. Of course he'd be like 90 years old now…

I'd rather have Staley than someone internal. Kyle is a p***y. He panics real quick. Although that is to our detriment during games, that can be an advantage for us off the field. Remember when McVay signed Stafford ? The idiot panicked and traded away the immediate future for Trey Lance. He panicked and chased down CMC when he learned McVay was trying to make a play for him.

In this regard, after this humiliating loss where everyone is pointing fingers at him, Kyle will panic. He's not hiring someone internal "hoping" he can become the next Saleh or Ryans. He's going to swing big. See how he tried to get Brady last offseason because he was unsure of Brock's status ? You can believe he's going to go through a laundry list of stars that include Belichick, Vrabel, Carroll before looking at guys like Staley and Schwartz. No way he goes for a young gun and no way he picks up some other teams's assistants.
Yea all the internal candidates were passed over last year for a reason. I don't see any of them as a viable replacement.

He'd be better than Staley.

Amazing that with so few choices in the poll, "Other" is 2nd to last. I'm not sure if people are voting for who they want rather than who they think it will be, but I'd bet my house that "Other" is the winner.

Never gonna happen, he still has a job as consultant with Seattle. The ONLY reason he'd do it would be if he was so bitter about the firing that he sought revenge.

Could've fooled me, didn't see him panic vs GB and Det. You act like the 49ers were blown out in the Super Bowl.
