Staley is a proven derp. I don't want him on this staff.
Staley will never be head coach again. And he did reasonably well with his time as DC. And he plays aggressive, which is exactly how our team should be playing on defense.
Is he the best candidate ? No. But if we can't someone like Belichick or Ryan here, then I'd rather have him than some internal project hire like Bullock or someone like Kiffin.
We need a home run hitter as our D coordinator. Some of these coaches you guys keep bringing up, you'd think this team is in rebuild mode…
What do you mean by Staley plays aggressive? Like he goes for it in 4th down? Going for it on 4th down is not applicable to him as a DC.
Defensively, he's not going to play soft zone or prevent in OT. He's not going to make blitzes obvious by having the blitzes line up at the line of scrimmage pre snap so that the offense adjusts…
I don't think your second sentence has anything to do with aggressiveness, about making blitzes obvious. The first sentence where you no longer want soft zones in overtime has been resolved when Wilks was fired. I posted earlier about how Staley's scheme would require the front 7 to learn how to play an entirely different way. Are okay dealing with the learning curve?

Like I said, fat chance. But the reason why is fairly simple: he's unemployed, all HC openings (and all other OC/DC openings?) are taken and he has never sat out a season of professional coaching since 1974.
Coaching this defense would probably be a fairly cushy job for him while giving him a shot at another ring and continuing his streak as a coach.

Belichick has no ties to the 49ers. And no John Lynch being on NEs roster for 2 weeks doesn't count.

Bill and Lynch would disagree with you. They seem to always talk highly about the little time Lynch was in NE, even if we was done from a performance standpoint. And Bill & the Shanahans have had strong ties going back 20 years. There's a reason he gave us Jimmy G for practically free
it probably won't happen, but they would be fools to at least not kick the tires. You miss every shot you don't make

Lynch was singed on September 13th and cut August 1st. Don't think they had much of a relationship then.

The consensus among all the media pundits is you have to make the call. This isn't some fan fodder invented on the WEBZONE. He's available. You give it a shot. Chance of being successful. Less than 1%. Unless you throw in a package that all but guarantees him independence at the position. This is the same team that pushed for Brady and Rodgers for deals that we all knew would never happen. But they made the calls. I give Lynch credit for that, so so fully expect him to make a push for Belichick…

If Belichik wants to come here (very loooooong shot) he will demand full control of the defense and Shanahan is too stupid to allow it. After all he didn't scout Mahomes because was waiting for Cousins and rejected Brady because decided to stay with Jimmy.

That is what I've been saying, but I see Pete as the logical answer as Kyle likes the cover 3.
I can imagine Bill Belicheat taking more of a consultant role though till he gets an opportunity to break the record and become the winningest coach.

Not really the same at all. The Pats and Niners don't have no where near as big a rivalry if that's what you're getting at.
