why would belichick be a dc for the 49ers though

Because he's not doing anything else

This would be like in 1991 Dallas saying like hey Bill Walsh you aren't doing anything want to be our offensive coordinator?

Walsh was working for NBC. Belichick is literally unemployed and has never sat out a season of professional coaching since 1974. There are no more HC openings and we're the only OC/DC opening available.

It's a 1-2% chance but that's why it's not 0%.

A 72 year old cranky white dude who's done nothing special since Brady left is not a 49er locker room fit. Not even close. He has nothing in common at this age with the modern NFL and his record the past several years reflects it.

Moving on..

To play devils advocate here: As opposed to a 44 year old semi cranky white guy who has never done anything special regardless of his qb? Besides that look at his defense last season. It was insanely good.
They ranked 11th fair enough but I still don't find his personality a fit with a number of players. I think he should have retired on top last SB win.

Steve Belichick And Mayo were the guys calling the defensive plays last yr. Obviously bill has say in everything.

i don't know imo it's more name recognition then anything at this pt in his career.

I can't expect him to magically change his scheme either to come here. He requires good man coverage DBs and those don't grow on trees. He's had huge LBers (like 250lbs +) Fred is bacially a S in his scheme. And he's always got those big fat 2-gapping DTs. Our personnel on D is quite the opposite of what he usually has to run his scheme.
Whomever Kyle feels he can control the most, with the least abrasion, will be his guy. Personality mesh is key here.

Walsh contract had expired and almost took the Tampa Bay job. But ended up re-upping with NBC instead.

Oh so your original comment does give 49er fans hope and there's more than a 1% chance he takes the job.
