I don't care who it is as long as he gets us back to the DeMeco defense, the Wide-9 was working in 2021 & 2022, we were top defense in 2022, then dropped off, I don't think Wilks was a bad hire, just didn't work out like we all hoped it would. I'd love a guy who is up and coming, but also won't be poached right away. I know that's a lot to ask lol.

Control the most? That's the opposite of what he wants. He had that with wilks. He wants the guy running the D to do his thing, so long as it fits the ideology of how that defense was built. Kyle did NOT want to have to take over defensive duties and have to fix s**t in game.
how anyone can blame him for stepping in when wilks is calling C0 blitzes on the last play before halftime or noting running some sort of man on these 3rd downs is beyond me.
he let Ryans and Saleh do there thing.

Chris Kiffin
Marquand Manuel
Chris Harris

Rivera could be good and won't be a hc again. If him and Kyle have/form a connection they could be a brutal together. Rivera could offload basically 99% of the defense from his plate etc. I could see both of them being very happy and successful together.
Everyone knows I don't like Staley, but he will never be an hc again. I've never seen players quit before like they did on Staley- no thanks. If you made me choose between him and Rivera it's a no brainer for Rivera imo. He has nowhere near the resume either. No thanks. If many of us think this. You know some players do as well.
Vrabel falls into that category, but he is def not long term like the other two so not sure how Kyle feels about that. I'd imagine he wants some continuity which is what I think partly drove the Wilks hire. Then there is would him and Kyle mesh etc.
Outside those two I don't think Belichek is realistic but the "hey you never know " element is driving the forum so I understand.
Rex is a joke.
Up and coming maybe but Kyle also has a veteran roster now. I feel like the coach needs to command respect and get these guys motivated quick.

Schefter is reporting Staley is the targeted coach. I'd be underwhelmed to say the least. Should have kept Wilks if Staley is the guy.

Source? I don't see it on his Twitter. Did he mention it on ESPN or something?

I'd like to see someone that changes the look around and keeps the offenses off balance. Coaches have ways of figuring out how to attack defenses when they see them enough. I'd like to see more disguised blitzes and stunts. More man coverage in certain situations assuming they can find a good cover corner.

I'd like to not see a retread and someone younger bright and hungry. I would even be on board with a Richard Sherman type. The guy is brilliant from a football and education perspective.

So you want them to hire a guy who has 0 coaching experience? You really think that's going to workout?

Yeah. Sherman would need to start as db coach and work with a dc for a few years to learn the other levels and scheme. I think he has the mind and the personality to be a good coach. But does he want to? Coaching is a lot of work.

Sure why not. I would bet $1 he could scheme as good as most out there. Maybe better. He understands defense at a high level.

When will we know?
I would think they'd need to before draft prep and free agency ramps up

Is anything informing this opinion other than your personal bias? Is there a history of Kyle micromanaging defensive coordinators? Seems to me, he would keep Wilkes around if this were really about control. But we all know the Kyle = Control Freak is just a dog-whistle to those loyal to previous regimes.
