Pete Carroll is the father of the flawed defense that sent him out the door in Seattle. Six years of the same system in SF, and it's only amounted to failure. Andy Reid, and other hot-shot veterans like McCarthy run an offense upgraded from the 49ers/Holmgren branch. Remember that Belichick's 3-4 has been stopping these Walshian systems since the days of Parcells. Keena Turner and the boys upstairs need to bury their grudges, and Shanahan needs to save his job. Lynch owes Bill a couple of favors as well, like giving Lynch a job in New England before the NFLPA forced Johnny off to the glue factory. Also, Kraft is kind of hurting Belichick right now the way Brown did to Walsh in the late 70's, so that's another reason to trust Belichick.

It's a pipe dream, but Belichick is really the only way out of this hole. Probably the only way we're close the gap, and catch the NFL off guard. Belichick is not about power and control... he's about discipline, structure, and winning. If Kyle wants to save his crooked ass job, he's gonna need Bill's help, and I don't think putting down 16 Mil on a defensive coordinator is a waste when there's a Superbowl/growth window involved.

Yeah, but I'll probably click the news on by tomorrow morning, and it's some retread vetran from our past to keep the fans brainwashed/lulled into a false-nostalgia high leading to failure. They did that to Jim Carrey in the Truman show (bringing his dead father back) when Truman tried to leave, and the niners love doing that. Kyle doesn't even know that Joe, Steve are all possibly sabotaging the team for Eddie D Holdings.

Triple slants is an upgraded offense

I feel like a hire within would be a bit underwhelming

I respectfully disagree. The best DC's the 49ers have ever fielded during the Shanahan regime were internal hires. Can the 49ers strike gold for a third time? I don't know.
The only internal hire was Ryans.

That's true Saleh came from Jacksonville.

I mean they've have one internal hire. Ryans.

Saleh was the LBer coach for the Jags prior to being the DC.

I would say the theme is to hire LBer coaches
Mike Silver's tweet screams "I know absolutely nothing and neither does any insider and it's killing us inside that we don't know so here's a tweet making it look like we know something! 😩"

He was also a special teams coordinator for Jacksonville and was the defensive passing game coordinator for the 49ers last season.

Honestly, in-house was always my first guess with Kyle. Especially now.
Internal hire is weird imo. So he wasn't the guy last yr, so you fire the guy that was supposedly better, then hire him?

I mean Silver is saying what other nfl coaches think, not really what he's hearing from SF.

wouldn't be surprised if that's what happens, I just find it weird. They're gonna hire the guy that couldn't beat out Wilks? Why not hire him last year?

I also find it interesting that the rumor is that it's an "in house" candidate. It tells me that the Shanahan wants to micro manage the defense as well. He likes working with coaches with no previous coordinator experience. How many times did you see him undermine Wilks last season. Just happened a week ago.

I've read some really weird sh*t on this forum throughout the years but this just might be the grand prize winner. I mean what?

If Kyle hires from within after skipping over that same candidate last year, then this season is awash and our SB window with the current group is over. Just the learning curve alone will be a hurdle for the new guy. That's why Kyle went outside last year to begin with. He knew we were in a win now scenario so he needed a veteran play caller that he thought could keep the D on a high level. Given all the D candidates available this offseason if he can't convince one to come in and instead promotes one of his own guys, then game ova

Kawakami's tweet that the DC decision "might be announced" soon screams the same thing.

If stopping him from continuing to f**k up is undermining then I hope he does it often.

We didn't know how the play would have turned out. He burned the TO because he didn't like the alignment. Kyle is actually very savvy on defense so you could be right.
