Yeah and he was the backup option after they tried to force him as DC on to Gase.

Yes I remember, that was some dark times. Balke and York making decisions that were all about them. Jed had learned from that time maybe Kyle can too.

Right and that's my big concern right now: what if this is taking awhile because our first option is falling through? Might just be paranoia but who knows.

Deadline should be Friday, since the Combine starts Monday.

I hope for the best. But we don't have to kid ourselves. A new defensive coordinator isn't going to fix this team. The problems run higher. Although I wasn't a big fan of Wilks and he had his downsides. We have a head coach and owner problem. I actually think the GM is pretty good.

What did ownership do that would lead you to believe there is a problem? I can understand the criticism thrown at Kyle for his play calling in the Super Bowl, but do you really believe there is another head coach out there right now that gets us back next year? What options are there? You're willing to blow it all up because of this loss and the 2019 one?
Sometimes I wonder if some of us in here are just straight up unreasonable or have fallen into the typical traps of the internet. There was a time that this team was bad and for long stretches. I lived it before the internet and also saw it during the early days of this website. Dark days, my friend, there were really dark days. Things could be worse right now, but saying that there is a problem with the head coach and owner is kind of unreasonable. All respect to you, but I'd like to know what problems the ownership has recently brought on lately to make this claim.

Newsflash: this wouldn't be taking this long if it were an internal candidate. Getting a deal done with someone big time is what would take this level of time and subterfuge. They may end up falling back to internal, but they're working on someone like bellicheat, vrabel or Carroll. Saleh would have told Kyle by now on ulbrich.
Depends on the internal candidate. If its Sorenson then they'd still have to complete two interviews with outside minority candidates first. After the Flores lawsuit, teams aren't messing around and they are being extremely thorough in assuring that they follow the process to the letter.
At this point in the cycle, it may not be easy to find a minority candidate who is truly interested in the job. If a minority candidate thought they were only being interviewed to fulfill the Rooney Rule, not that there was a serious job possibility, they might decline to interview. A lot goes on behind the curtain.
