I feel like it's gonna be out of nowhere like when Lynch was hired as GM.
For some reason I instantly thought of Richard Sherman.
Not my prediction or anything.

One name I'll throw out there is Brandon Lynch, the CB coach of the Browns. He's a former NFL player, has been coaching for over a decade between college and the NFL and already had a few DC interviews. He's a pretty intense dude that is more on the level of coaches like Saleh and Ryans in terms of his demeanor.
I don't want a first time DC who is not already within the team.
First time DC needs time to figure things out.
DC from outside also takes time to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the players
Back in 2017 with Saleh, we weren't competitive so he can take a year or two to learn.
With Demaco, he was a first time DC, but at least he was an internal hire, so he didn't need to learn the players.
The worst is a first time DC from outside the team. We are in whin now mode and simply don't have the luxury to wait and develop the DC.

Rex hasn't been in the league for nearly a decade, Pete hasn't produced a good defense in ages which is a big part of the reason SEA moved him into an advisor role so they could go get the Ravens DC Macdonald. No thanks.
I'm seeing the appeal of a coach from the Baltimore or KC staffs more and more. Could help Shanny get over the hump too having practices against those schemes every day and literally being forced to adjust.

This will be a very interesting hire and will tell us a lot about what Kyle thinks of the defensive landscape of the NFL.
Would it be an easy transition to switch with our current personnel?

Most of the 9ers personnel fit any scheme.

...except a 3-4. We don't have a NT.

I think so, yes. The important part is having a DC that knows when to call blitzes and more importantly, what types of blitzes to call. As far as the player personnel, I think they have enough to make it work. Outside of Mooney, the other CBs aren't amazing man cover CBs, but it would be good enough provided the blitzes work. There's also the question of whether Brown and Huf fit the scheme. btw I'm not suggesting the 49ers go this route, I'm just curious whether they do.

Your probably right but it calls into question why didn't he go that route last year.

we don't have the DL to run a 3-4... Bosa will be as sorry as his brother if we turn him into an OLB..
erase this suggestion.. nah nah nah nahhh..
our next DC should only be between:
Bill The Cheat
Ulbrich the Homer
Tom Allen
Rex Ryan

Kyle said about wanting to run the same scheme that they have the players for and are familiar with, so I'm thinking Bullocks and I'm fine with that, was a fan of his as a player and I did read things about him having a bright coaching future
Interesting. I missed that part. I wonder if they take a look at Tony Oden, who is currently with Saleh in NY.
Kyle Shanahan said he will look inside the building as well as outside the organization to bring in a coordinator who has more of a background in the system the 49ers have run since 2017.

Yeah, I could see it being Bullocks or someone on Saleh or Ryan's current staff. Vrabel sounds nice, but I don't know if he runs the same system.
I could see Bullocks, Corey Undlin, Tony Oden, and Mike Rutenberg all getting looks.
Undlin was awful in his lone season in Detroit as a coordinator. He was also operating under Matt Patricia on a talent laden team so we don't even know how much say he had in the defense. He was with Kyle and Ryans here in San Francisco as a passing game coordinator and he's now with Ryans in Houston as his passing game coordinator.
Mike Rutenberg was in San Francisco for one season then followed Saleh to the Jets. No coordinator experience other than calling plays at the senior bowl last year but I've read he's a bright guy and he understands the system Kyle is looking for.
Oden is another guy who spent one season in San Francisco then followed Saleh to the Jets. He's never been a coordinator but has been in the NFL for a long time and is another guy who understands the system Kyle wants.
Bullocks has been in the building under both Saleh and Ryans. Seems like the most natural fit inside the building.
Off of that list I'd like either Rutenberg for the reasons you stated, or Daniel Bullocks if they stay in house, provided that Bullocks learned how to scheme the front seven from Saleh and DeMeco. If Bullocks has that he fits the DeMeco profile of young energetic coach.

Isn't Ulbrich under contract with the Jets? No way would they let him make a lateral move.

I'm sorta in favor of that. Idk, maybe I'm just bias cause we had a struggling season upfront this year but I don't love the wide 9.
It was fine when we had a DJ Jones starting and ends who could/would set the edge. We aren't that far off from the 2021 defense in terms of personnel.

Which Defenses have done the best against the "scrambling" QB's the last few years? Seems to be one of the 9ers weaknesses - getting home on Mahomes and the like.
CLE & BAL had some of the best D's this year, but not sure there is anybody worth snagging that's a young "Up & Coming" Assistant. Somebody like DeMeco Ryans. Young(er). Enthusiastic. Intelligent. Relates well to Players.
There's a part of me that wouldn't mind seeing somebody who has ties to the Team. Maybe not much experience, but fits that profile.

Is there any youngish fresh talent out there who can come in and be very player focused and engaging with a more aggressive scheme that includes blitzing and more man on man but also put Kyle in his place when he meddles too much.
It would be great if they brought an experiences head come in but I just can't see it as they would butt heads with Kyle and John.
