This is taking longer than I expected. I was hoping Kyle had someone ready to move in and take the job. Apparently that wasn't the case unless they hit a snag.

Hiring internally after all this time would be a HUGE embarrassment. Only thing that justifies this wait is if it's for an external splash hiring with a lot of details to work out.

If we hire internally, add this along with not knowing the playoff OT rules to the "optical embarrassments for the team that just lost the Super Bowl" pile.

Ugh. We needed that win so, SO badly. I had a feeling in my heart that we didn't just watch a Super Bowl loss, but a franchise-crippling loss. So far it's looking pretty accurate

Yea. I think the Shanafans are in denial about this and think we are at the beginning of an era of greatness led by one of the greatest coaches of all time.

But the truth is that this was the best chance at winning it all, and we choked. I think most fans will come to terms with it when we have an early exit next year…

How is that looking accurate?

We have a young star at QB and a team full of great players. Our window remains wide open next year.

And the timing of a hire means nothing. The team doing their due diligence while there are no other DC vacancies to compete with is the correct move. Interview every possible candidate and pick the best fit. There's no reason to rush this, and if you think this process is indicative of anything, then you've already made up your mind and anything done will be proof of how you already feel. Confirmation bias is a helluva drug.

You sure you're in the right forum?

Totally agree with this. Also, I don't think Kyle gives two s**ts about the optics of this hire. He's going to pick the guy he thinks gives the team the best chance to win. The average fan isn't as hardcore as those of us who post about the team in an archaic early 2000s style message board like this. The average fans fill the stadium and fill Jed's pockets and probably barely give any thought to this DC hire, so I really doubt Jed cares about the optics of this hire either.

There really isn't. If there was ever a good time to make sure to take your time and thoroughly evaluate your options, this is it.

yes, one thing we've learned is that this regime doesn't care about optics and what fans, media, anyone else outside the building thinks. and they've been very successful. The team doesn't need a "splash" hire, they just need someone who can run the defense the way it should be run, with the personnel we have. It's a good thing Kyle is taking his time, there is no rush, especially if it's an internal hire. I trust Kyle to get it right

They don't care about winning Super Bowls either
No news today, you have to assume either something fell through with a big candidate and they're scrambling or they truly went into this without an answer, a plan of how they're going to fill this opening. Either one is a bad look.
One of the more mysterious coordinator searches I've seen in a while.

If it was going to be an internal hire you'd figure it'd be done already since these guys are on staff so Kyle should have a good idea of who he'd want to do it.

A hire outside the building you would've thought you'd have heard some kind of morsel of information like in previous seasons you at least heard about who interviewed.

I'm sure once they do hire somebody you'll see the details come out as they typically do after the fact but in the meantime it does make you wonder what's going on behind the scenes.

Yup. Seeing people defend this is pretty crazy.

Or they were just gonna hire internally all along. Just because you don't like that idea, doesn't mean it's the bad move.

Why on earth does it take them 2+ weeks to hire someone right under their noses? This is taking 2.5 weeks to hire Tomsula as our HC all over again

Who cares how long it takes? There could be an agreement set in place, just no official statement yet. A lot of these coaches/players are on vacation right after the season is done.

maybe they want to make the hire official when everyone is done their vacation and have it done properly?

I don't understand why everyone is so upset over "how long it's taking" it's not like they're fighting with other teams to get a DC in the building right now.

Relax. Ya'll are trying wayyy too hard with your Grant Cohn negative nancy stuff.
IMO the way it's looking it's internal, guessing Nick Sorensen or Johnny Holland.

Agreed. I wonder how the players respond.
