Sorensen replaced current 49ers special teams coordinator Brian Schneider in Jacksonville.

Staley replaced Anthony Lynn as Chargers HC and now as assistant head coach on the 49ers.

Not sure how I feel about this. I didn't want Staley at all, but since he's not the actual dc and more of an assistant (we shall see?) it's not as horrific sounding. Sorensen sounds OK imo. I just wish he did it last year.

This move could work while helping develop Sorensen and Staley reboots his own brain and career.

If this doesn't work, they must blow up the defensive side of the ball and bring in someone fresh with their ideas to run that side.

I would have liked an outside guy like Vrabel but that meant his own staff etc. Kyle isn't ready to do that on a likely one year rental. Understandable and let's hope it works out.
If it doesn't work I think there's a pretty good chance Saleh is back in the saddle at this time next year.

Agreed that's a real possibility unless the Jets play very well and Rodger's does another year. Also have to see how our team does.

Hopefully he learned something from Bud Foster at VT

Hopefully the D plays lights out & Sorensons neck isn't on the chopping block.

Holy **** what a clown franchise. We needed that Super Bowl win badly. The Chiefs single-handedly turned us into a permanent laughing stock.

Well Sorensen is a white guy, so they couldn't just hire him even if he was their #1 choice by a mile. Had to interview at least 2 minority candidates AND couldn't make it obvious they already had someone in mind, because of the Racist...er...Rooney Rule.
I see no reason to get upset over the Sorensen hiring. Does anyone really know how he'll do as a DC? I suspect they contacted other candidates but weren't able to lure them to the 49ers.

I'd like to see a link to the claim that Shanahan and Sorenson game planned the Defense prior to the Super Bowl.

It would change my perspective on the hire.

You need evidence that Kyle runs this b***h?

Is Nick partly to blame for not having his DBs prepared for Mahomie's game-winning td play? The same s**t Mahomies dusted the Beagles with not once, but twice, in the previous SB?

What are you talking about? I have no problem with them taking time to check out other options. Nothing like the Tomsula situation at all.

You think it is a clown franchise? Go somewhere else then. But that Super Bowl loss was as close as they come and in no way at all turned us into a laughing stock. A 55-3 result is what turns you into a laughing stock.

Totally agree English, you would think the 49ers got blown out badly in the Super Bowl the way some here make Shanahan and the 9ers out to be. But getting back to the DC hiring, I had a feeling no big name DC was gonna come over without bringing in some of his own. I felt the 49ers were too late in the process to not only hire a big name DC and tweak the staff if there was gonna be a change in scheme.

That is very possible just as it's also possible that Sorensen was just more impressive in his interview than anyone else who they spoke to/with about this job.
As the defensive passing game specialist, I don't think that's specific to just the secondary. To me, it sounds like Sorenson's role would have some focus on marrying the front to back.

Nothing he can do during the course of the game though when Wilks starts putting guys 10 yards back on 3rd and 3 play calls though 🙄

How uninspiring. Maybe would've looked better the other way around with Staley and some fresh ideas as DC and give Sorensen the promotion to AHC. This just smells like a typical Kyle move. Put your little minion as DC so you can control the playcalling. And I have no clue what role Staley plays.

Awful

Maybe the only one that licked Kyle's boots and said yes sir and anything you say sir during the interview. Kyle is such a clown. 3 weeks just to hire the guy sitting next to him.

Can't believe they had a chance at someone who has 5 SBs and knows how to call defenses that stopped us in the SB twice AND stopped the undefeated Patriots. Kyle is such an insecure clown couldn't take the heat from that interview last week and decided to take his ball home and hire his little buddy instead.

what a joke.
