It doesn't make a ot of difference who they bring in. It's almost guaranteed that if he's successful some team will hire him as HC. That's why Saleh may be a good choice if he wants to come back. He might be more willing to remain a DC a little longer and not be so anxious to jump at the first chance.

To me, Kyle is taking accountability for hiring Sorensen, but it definitely doesn't sound like he's happy with Nick.
He would say something a lot different.
Shanahan has always been low key. He doesn't throw his assistants under the bus but he's also not been super shy about replacing them either. He'll continue to praise Sorenson right up to the day he gets canned and then thank and praise him even as he brings in Ulbrich or brings back Saleh.
According to Maiocco right now on KNBR he thinks Kyle likes Sorensen and he's running the defense that Kyle wants and isn't looking for a change.
So Kyle's buddy seems to be safe and we will continue our bottom 3rd defense for next season.
This is the D he wants? Ugh
If Maiocco is wrong he loses all credibility with me.
We all know Kyle and John are not going to bash anyone that is currently on the team
Just have to wait until our season ends
Yup agree with this. Been on to him for a long time, Ian Rappoport is the best insider. IMO

My money is on Jeff Ulbrich if and when they make a change. Don't get me wrong I'd take Saleh over Ulbrich but I just get this feeling that Saleh will go with another familiar face other than Shanahan. Ulbrich knows Shanahan and Ulbrich I bet would love to get back to the Bay. I don't see Ulbrich becoming a HC any time soon either. As for Gym Shorts, I don't think his personality meshes with Kyle Shanahan, just my opinion of course.

he's a 49er.. if we can't land PJ Fleck or Dan Lanning as our next HC, the Ol' 53 will get us to the Super Bowl and win it !!
LETS GO ULBRICH !!!!!!

Why don't you see him becoming a HC soon. If he turns the defense around there will be teams looking to hire him. He's had more years as a DC than Ryans did before he got hired.

If you hear the interview he seems confident in Sorensen and there was a 'difference' with philosophy with Wilks, even though Wilks had a better D and the players respected him.
Didn't like Wilks as DC, and dislike this guy even more. What the hell does Staley do? Not the biggest fan of his, but he was a decent enough DC in LA

I'm not a fan of the way Sorenson calls a game but in fairness he's been without Greenlaw all year and Hargrave and Hufanga for most of the year. Then you add the issues with Ward and some new faces on the line that haven't been overwhelming and you have a recipe for mediocrity.

I'm not giving him a pass based on injuries (not saying you are) because even with those injuries he's just not showing anything to adapt to them.
Feels like there's no attempt to even create mismatches, just rush four and win on talent while giving a cushion in the backfield to avoid the big play.
That was barely working with Hargraves and Bosa, but once we lost both surely he had to do something creative to compensate for less talent.....nope.
Guys got to go at seasons end. Can't always skate by on talent, let alone talent that's not being in positions to succeed.

Exactly!!! He's had more years as a DC and didn't become a HC. Its not like he didn't have good defenses either.
