17 days just to hire someone right under our noses. Jim Tomsula all over again.

Holy **** what a clown franchise. We needed that Super Bowl win badly. The Chiefs single-handedly turned us into a permanent laughing stock.

Well Sorensen is a white guy, so they couldn't just hire him even if he was their #1 choice by a mile. Had to interview at least 2 minority candidates AND couldn't make it obvious they already had someone in mind, because of the Racist...er...Rooney Rule.

Can't believe they had a chance at someone who has 5 SBs and knows how to call defenses that stopped us in the SB twice AND stopped the undefeated Patriots. Kyle is such an insecure clown couldn't take the heat from that interview last week and decided to take his ball home and hire his little buddy instead.

what a joke.

You seem jealous. Maybe no decision making power in your own life so you get upset at decision makers on line?

Sucks to suck

Again folks, the title is totally different. He's Kyle's assistant.

Every coach on the staff is Kyle's assistant. Lynn was AHC but really he was just a glorified RB coach. He left with Bobby Turner back full time. Staley is AHC because he's previously been a HC and those are the people that usually get that title. On the overall hierarchy it still falls below both offensive and defensive coordinator usually.

So in order to refute my logic you're using a statement that simply isn't true: not every coach on the staff is THE assistant HC. It is a different role. Now it may be specialized, as you say based on the situation, but to ASSUME that he's focused solely or primarily on defense - we don't know that.

you have no idea if Merritt is competent enough to be a coordinator. how come after 4 Super Bowls wins, he never got a DC job?
Glad it's over. 2 for 1 kind of deal with Staley onboard to help him out. The D philosophy is a continuation with hopefully some fresh new wrinkles added. Let's hope.

It might just be for him to give defensive insight and Kyle throwing him a bone to rebuild his reputation and learn some offensive things from Kyle.

And his only interview has been with the 49ers

And I might be 7 feet tall. Why dont we wait and see what they have in mind? You folks understand that he's spent more time as a HC than as a DC don't you?

The Ryans hiring at the time had everyone optimistic and in the end was thee right hire. The Saleh hire wasn't exciting because we were all expecting Gus Bradley, at least that's what I remember.
It's the right move. It's very difficult when all other teams filled their positions before the SB was even over. If the defense is not on track, it may not have a good look but they can start much earlier next year in the candidate pool.

He reads like a good likable guy. Stay positive until proven otherwise. I'm glad they went this direction and it seems they interviewed a fair amount of candidates and he was the best available.

Lets go! FA almost here.

How uninspiring. Maybe would've looked better the other way around with Staley and some fresh ideas as DC and give Sorensen the promotion to AHC. This just smells like a typical Kyle move. Put your little minion as DC so you can control the playcalling. And I have no clue what role Staley plays.

Awful

So you want to see Nick Bosa at OLB.....?

Shanny was going after Vrabel for DC in '17.

Exactly, that has to put up some red flags.

No but this team is in a much different place roster wise than they were at the times of those hiring.

But hopefully Sorenson is as good of a hire as those two.
