Based off the chargers "D" I'm going to go with Aaron Donald

Staley's defenses were horrible with the Chargers. At least Saleh had the Jets playing elite D

I hate to back up Staley over Saleh but at least Staley got his team to the playoffs.

The only impediment to getting Saleh is demoting or firing Sorensen.
Nah, he said he wasn't going to look for work.. people were already pegging him to go back to SF, then he suddenly joined GB.

I don't really mind Nick staying, too me it is more of a continuity situation. This team has gone through a lot of turnover in the assistant coach dept time for a little calmness.

And again Saleh did not light the world on fire at first his defense was terrible, people were calling for him to be fired also. But Kyle stuck with him.

There was a time where I was confident that if the 49er's kept the game close during the 1st half, they would dominate the 2nd half, and more often than not, It happened. Not Anymore. In fact, now it's the opposite.
I'm sorry, I'm not confident in that Sorenson is able to make the necessary adjustment as the game goes along.

People are quick to say that it's because the 49'ers have had many injuries, but NOT at the beginning. There was NO excuse for losing to the Cardinals and the Rams at the beginning of the season. Especially in the last minutes of the game! Lack of adjustments.

The defense didn't lose the games, look at the mistakes made on offense back then.
It's been infuriating at times this season on some of the calls, but I guess all we can do is hope Kyle knows the situation from the inside better than us on this.

He did say that Sorensen had to "find answers where there really hasn't been any." That's a really odd and intriguing quote.. IMO that's a massive shot at the personnel.

I suppose it might be somewhat unfair of me to judge him as harsh for some of the defensive collapses when he's had Jayir Brown, Campbell, DFF, Graham, rookie Bethune, average IDL and overall nearly half a defense of rookies and the best two players playing injured half (Bosa) or all year (Fred).

All that on top of being a rookie DC and trying to manage that despite no experience.

Looking at everything within context, while I'm still angry over our situational results, and Kyle himself said they're not happy with the numbers overall, perhaps there's more reason to support Sorensen than I wanted to admit for most of the year.

Defense was the lone bright spot in a injury plague 2020 season. Not this year!

Yeah, it's just as much on the offense for those games, if not more. They just could not add points to increase the leads, or in the Cardinals game you have Mason fumbling in the red zone when even a FG would have been huge.

I don't think Sorenson has been all that great, but he's been better than some here like to claim.
Since when did the defense get a pass just because the offense was a problem? Sorensen sucks. Even when we're injured we typically march out more Pro Bowlers than most other teams and it seems like we can't even play competitive defense unless we have EVERYONE healthy and playing. Meanwhile, I watch all these other defenses play with lesser talent and severely outplaying us.

Yes, the offense has sucked but that doesn't give the defense a pass

When the Pro Bowlers are carrying injuries or are out with injuries, I am not sure that their Pro Bowl status has any impact. And with the number of injuries, it isn't a question of having EVERYONE healthy and playing so much as having ANYONE healthy and playing. And the injuries have been to key players.

It was bad enough that they started the year with another new DC. It was made worse when they were without Huf and Greenlaw to start the year. Then they lost maybe their best interior D lineman in game 2. Ward had the off field issue with his one year old child. That's 4 key players on defense that were unavailable for much of the year. Like most teams the Niners don't have enough depth to replace that many guys. Corner, Safety, LB and D line. One player at every key spot. Then to make it worser Bosa got injured and missed a couple of games and played in others when he wasn't 100%.

Adding Warner, Greenlaw and Bosa in 2018 and 2019 certainly helped that.
