I don't really mind Nick staying, too me it is more of a continuity situation. This team has gone through a lot of turnover in the assistant coach dept time for a little calmness.
And again Saleh did not light the world on fire at first his defense was terrible, people were calling for him to be fired also. But Kyle stuck with him.
The defense always improved under Saleh.
Adding Warner, Greenlaw and Bosa in 2018 and 2019 certainly helped that.
Sorensen is coming back, I get it. But man he's just so uninspiring as a DC, not a motivator, it doesn't seem like the defense is responding too well. It's like the defense is going through the motions like "I'm here, let's get this over with" kind of mentality. I've never seen a 49ers defense miss so much tackles since Shanahan became the head coach. Saleh and Ryans 49ers defenses took pride in tackling, the product Sorensen is putting on the field shows the opposite.
