I don't really mind Nick staying, too me it is more of a continuity situation. This team has gone through a lot of turnover in the assistant coach dept time for a little calmness.

And again Saleh did not light the world on fire at first his defense was terrible, people were calling for him to be fired also. But Kyle stuck with him.

The defense always improved under Saleh.

Adding Warner, Greenlaw and Bosa in 2018 and 2019 certainly helped that.

Sorensen is coming back, I get it. But man he's just so uninspiring as a DC, not a motivator, it doesn't seem like the defense is responding too well. It's like the defense is going through the motions like "I'm here, let's get this over with" kind of mentality. I've never seen a 49ers defense miss so much tackles since Shanahan became the head coach. Saleh and Ryans 49ers defenses took pride in tackling, the product Sorensen is putting on the field shows the opposite.
Bringing this dude back is insane. Points the bigger issue

I agree except we did see a difference when Huf and Greenlaw were in there. Both are ferocious tacklers and it lifts the entire defense. Warner is required to do too much when Greenlaw isn't in there.

This is very true and it would've been enough to win the division. However, the play calling has been horrendous on third downs and in the fourth quarter. That we cannot deny. Nobody can and that is the issue

Since when did the defense get a pass just because the offense was a problem? Sorensen sucks. Even when we're injured we typically march out more Pro Bowlers than most other teams and it seems like we can't even play competitive defense unless we have EVERYONE healthy and playing. Meanwhile, I watch all these other defenses play with lesser talent and severely outplaying us.

Yes, the offense has sucked but that doesn't give the defense a pass

So first of all, totally dodging the point. And 2nd of all you are all making excuses. We have had most of our defense together for most of the year. We've had Warner all year, Bosa for most of the year, Leonard Floyd, DeMo, Ward (most of the year), Collins, Hargrave, Huff, Elliott, etc.... Most of these guys we had early when we were getting embarrassed. So apparently, we need an All Pro at every single position, every game, period. Otherwise "we're injured" and can't play well enough. Do I have that right?

Man, how on earth do the other teams do it with half of that talent? Sorensen f**king sucks. He f**kING SUCKS! My god, be a little more blind
SALEH
Why are people using the injury excuse?? His playcalls were bad before, his players are undisciplined, his players are confused, teams consistently use his stupidity against him creating easy conversions. ALL of these issues are coaching. All of them. No one should want this guy back and if he is back we're going to be a fringe playoff team at best next year.
Yeah, I hope this guy is gone. Got no time for that.

People are using the injury excuse because he's coming back and they need a reason to justify it.
He's a cookie-cutter, dime a dozen coach that should be easily replaced .

Not easily replaced if you want a top notch DC. The fact is there aren't a lot of great DCs around the league. The best ones are hired as HCs after a couple of good seasons. There aren't many that are content to be DCs.
I don't see them letting him go unless they have a shot at Ulbricht unfortunately

Bingo. At least under Wilks we saw the entire secondary improve. Who has improved under Sorenson? The pass rush got worse with better talent. Everything is vanilla rush 4 with soft zone coverage. The blitz packages are horrendous. When they do blitz they play 10 yards off allwoing for easy completions. Can't get off the field on 3rd downs. Multiple blown 2nd half leads. But don't worry everybody will be healthy next year and the defense will be perfect.

Not only has no one individually improved, many have gotten worse. The 2 defensive players I am impressed with are rookies (Mustafa & green), and demo has kept his high level of play. Everyone else has gotten worse to some degree. That is coaching.

And beyond that, his playcalling has not evolved at all. When we don't get pressure, we don't try anything to manufacture pressure. We don't switch up over coverages. Talk s**t on Wilkes if you want but I recall late in nfccg, game on the line, 4th and short, Wilkes absolutely fooled the lions by having greenlaw "follow" the shifting RB, indicating man coverage, but it was actually zone. That takes some balls to have a lb do that and trust.

We get nothing like that from Sorensen. It might as well be preseason defense. Disguises nothing, OCs know our rules and use it against us for pitch & catch s**t, we try nothing innovative. This is all coaching and considering talent level to what we put on the field, Sorensen is the worst DC in the nfl
