Hope Saleh is back next season

If he comes back and the Niners don't add some beef in the middle of the line and another LB the defense will be about the same. If Greenlaw comes back and plays well and they beef up the line thn even Sorenson can look better.

It's not just the players, his play calling is some of the worst and players look out of position. He doesn't put his players in the best places to succeed and make plays. 49ers defense has 10 INT's.......10!!!! Detroit's Safety has 9 and some other Safeties in the NFL have 7, 6, 5. It's ridiculous.

Pretty puzzling that the last 2 years they haven't added a legit run stuffer. Never replaced DJ, Buck or AA. Running lanes were wide open yesterday.

I hear you, but imo Sorensen doesn't give off that same energy we need. And I don't think he's nearly as X on savvy either. Avery Johnson did that under 2 on Purdy as Aikman explained. It was a great game of chess and led to a pick. I've never seen anything like that from our d this year. I want a real dc who can do stuff like that. And I'm tired of being beholden to one scheme. A good coach can mold his scheme to his roster etc.

Exactly two things can be true at once Sorensen sucks and we need to greatly improve the talent.
is this puto fired yet?

We saw how different the defense looked when Greenlaw and Huf were in for one game. He was without Hargrave who is probably their best interior lineman and Ward had off field issues that affected his play. Warner played much of the year with a fracture in his ankle. Bosa had his isueslate in the season.

When a new DC comes in and immediatley is faced with playing short handed at LB which is a key spot in this style of defense he's already behind the 8 ball. Then to lose your best interior lineman 2 games into the season just makes everything worse. The D line depth immediately is depleted.

I don't hoest;y know whether he can improve or nt but he wasn't playing with a full roster. Just like the offense there were some key pieces missing. If he had been there for a couple years and knew the personnel better he may have beenable to handle it. Remember Saleh didn't do well his firs tyear. It wasn't until they drafted Warner, Greenlaw and Bosa that that defense started to shine.

And yet he calls the game like we are playing with a full completely healthy defense.
As much as Kyle likes to scheme and disguise on offense, we are completely opposite on defense.
I hate when we constantly line up in that wide 9 four man front. If we had 4 studs up front it would be different, but we don't.
we don't create any confusion for the offensive line. The lineman know exactly who's coming and where they're at, the quarterback doesn't have to worry about who's coming and who isn't. It's so predictable. Kyle's wondering why we don't get any turnovers it's because we don't cause any confusion and forced them into turnovers and mistakes. This is especially bad later in the game when our linemen are tired and can't get the push they need. We need to be more creative with the blitzing and pressures. But for whatever reason, they do not want to play that way, so we will continue to give up leads Late in games.

No argument here. You don't see any innovation as many have pointed it out. Baldinger mentioned it weeks ago.

To be honest Sorenson and the defense did a pretty good job last night. Missed FG and int's hurt this team last night.

They didnt force one punt or turnover

this cant be serious

They were playing a top 2 offense in the league. I just don't think they did a bad job, do you think they could have won without those mistakes? I'm not advocating for him to keep his job that will be up to Kyle.

The 49ers didn't punt either.
TBH those TO's were really nothing special by the Detroit D Brock just didn't see Joseph.

There were multiple blown coverages last night. That shouldn't happen to a serious football team, especially in week 17. That speaks to a coaching issue.

beyond the coaching issue, the organization needs to evaluate their overall defensive philosophy in the offseason. The wide 9 is outdated. Teams are using heavier personnel and running the football more effectively. You cannot be small on the interior. You cannot see a weak edge. You cannot be in Nickel in 11 personnel.

John Lynch has a lot of work to do.

This

Again not advocating for Nick to keep his job just trying to exhaust all avenues but there are two rookies starting in the secondary Mustapha and Greene and not mention Brown , that may account for some of the blown coverage assignments and some of those were just Yaddam getting beat what seemed like every play. And Saleh was terrible also when he first tried his hand at the DC spot.

Would agree with you if this was week 2. It's week 17. There shouldn't be guys running wide open on the defense.

I watch a lot of football and I'm not sure there was a bigger mismatch of coordinators I've seen this year than Ben Johnson vs Staley/Sorenson.

As far as the guys who want to bring in Saleh. Personnel and scheme need evaluation. The scheme would change with Saleh but will not matter much if they keep drafting the same kind of players.
Can we hire Jeff Ulbrich yet???
