what a joke.

How can one be certain that a career position coach who has never been a DC or play caller knows how to call a defense?

🤡

Has more SBs han Kyle. Nuff said

I think that Sorensen has to be a good one if Shanahan hires him. They just lost the Superbowl, they will have ton of pressure next season. You just fired Steve Wilks. Shanahan can't hire someone he doesn't trust to coach his defense the way he wants it. It's not like there was a ton of possibilities. Sure, it would have been great to hire Belichick but why would he come to be DC seriously? He has been HC for 25 seasons. I didn't want Staley as DC. I think he's someone that has a lot of ideas but needs someone to tell him which ones to keep. And he uses another system. Shanahan has seen Sorensen for three seasons. He has to have a good idea just like when he choosed DeMeco. Look the defense wasn't the reason they lost the Superbowl, Special Teams were, but hiring someone that knows the system and what Kyle wants is pretty logical. I could see Kyle being even more involved with the Defense regardless anyway.

But seriously, it's like Kyle actually wanted to hire Staley as HC (they have similar narcissistic personalities, imo)... but he knew it wouldn't fly for the players or the fans. Local Media would just slobber what ever decsion Kyle makes anyway, like some here..so that wasn't a worry.. but again players and fans matter.

So he couldn't hire Staley outright... so he hires a Coach the players already know and trust. But if that Coach struggles this upcoming season, Kyle will have his opening to have Staley take over. We've seen it on other teams (hell the Eagles last year).... and if fake ass person Brandon Staley doesn't work out, well you know the routine.

Seriously why would Staley accept some assistant role, after being a HC? Because he's been reassured the job is his to rescue, if there are troubles for the Super Bowl favorite team. A rescue that might actually help him get rid of the stench, that was his Charger HC run..

This post tells me tinfoil is on sale somewhere so please share where you got yours because I too wish to make a tinfoil hat.

If we struggle on defense this year, do you see Staley taking over the play calling... or the DC position, if Sorenson gets fired?

I mean do you think Sorensen is actually happy Staley got hired? That he has to look over his shoulder and try to coach mistake free?... compared to going into his first opportunity as a DC, being free and creative.

Remember when we promoted Meco and hired James Bettcher as a Senior Defensive Assistant?

Or when Kyle was hired and he in turn hired Saleh as DC and decided to keep Jason Tarver on the staff as a Senior Defensive Assistant?

Why is it bad to have an experienced defensive play caller on the staff for the very scenario you spelled out? Last season, in season they didn't have someone to turn to so they stuck with Wilks. Now they are planning for everything and learned from their mistakes. Wilks probably would have been gone at the bye if they had someone that had experience on the staff.

In 2017, with a first time DC in Saleh, the 49ers had Jason Tarver, a former DC on staff. In 2021 with a first time DC in Ryans, the 49ers had James Bettcher, another former DC on staff. Both guys left after a year but served their purpose of having an experienced playcaller for their new DC to lean on if needed.

This is just following that trend.

The way I see it, to me it really sounds like they already liked Sorenson a lot. They gave a chance to four other guys to see if they came away more impressed or blown away. Ultimately, they like Staley's general defensive knowledge, but want a guy that knows our system calling the plays.

Sorenson was already working himself up the pipeline. I think Bullocks is too. I would not be surprised if Bullocks was next in line if Sorenson becomes a HC one day.
I hope it's not just. A yes man hire and this Sorensen dude isn't a loser. I'm not thrilled about Staley but the dude was a HC and could be a good double check on stuff, like overtime rules…
Internal promotion has worked before. I think he will do well in our system. Time will tell. Staley though should coach flag football. He is not what we need in the building. We need more experienced folks surrounding our dips**t hc.
I suppose this is a possibility too.

You didn't answer the question because we both know you can't.

Merrit has never called a defense so the reality is you don't know if he knows how to call a defense or if he would be successful as a play caller.

Those examples weren't Head Coaches, the previous season.
These takes are so hysterically bad even acknowledging them seems like charity.

You think Sorensen is unhappy with a big pay raise and a chance to make a name for himself coaching some of the best defensive talent in the NFL? Lol

This is a huge opportunity for him and his career, he is probably stoked. You seem unhappy on the other hand.
Basically, Bosa and Warner are in charge of the defense now.

That would have been Merritt but as we all know Kyle is his own worst enemy and his Ego will not let him learn. Causes great ignorance to not learn from his own mistakes or insanity by doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
