C'mon Shanahan can you frickin fire this dude already!!!!! Show some respect let this guy latch on to team early….that's probably the only nice thing I'll say about Sorensen while he's still a 9er.

i wouldn't fire the guy until there is a chance to hire someone with more experience.. we can't afford to go with another newbie

The problem with firing Sorensen is that it would be 2 defense coordinators hired and fired by Shanahan in two years. This tells management that he has screwed up repeatedly in recent years on top of that Trace Lance debacle. Shanahan will have too much pride stubbornness to admit this latest mistake so will just live with him as DC.

Making the SB last year screwed our chances of hiring a quality DC to replace Wilkes

By the time we were looking time was running out and candidates had plans in place

Sorensen was an emergency fill in that we "hoped" would work

Replacing him wouldn't look back

I think a big part of that is Kyle wants his hand in every aspect of the coaching. A lot of DC candidates will have a problem with that. Where as Nick does not. Not saying whether Nick should be fired or kept just looking for an explanation of why DC candidates might not want the job.

Yeah, the longer this goes the more worried I am about Sorensen getting another chance. If it were a year where there were a lack of options I might understand that approach, but there are guy out there like Saleh, Ulbrich, Gus Bradley, and Lou Anarumo any of which would be pretty substantial upgrades in my opinion. I think the team needs to take advantage of that and get someone solid in here hopefully for the long haul.

Saleh's first year with the Niners wasn't good either. I would like to see some changes to the style of defense the Niners use. Wide 9 seems outdated.

It's not outdated but we haven't had the personnel to run it effectively the last 2 years. For whatever reason they are going with smaller pass rushing type of DT's over run stuffers with some pass rush ability. Our IDL simply sucks ass versus the run. All of them are bad We need to find a Jalen Carter ASAP.

The league has probably adapted to our offense with so many of Shannys underlings using the same system. While the wide 9 was the best to counter the Shanny ZBS system it probably isn't anymore.
Also, with the emphasis being offense the league allows way too many versions of holding. Bosa types are being negated by undrafted and less skilled linemen.

On the comment on smaller DTs at least from the small sample size of this years fantasy football players, running backs reigned supreme again unless you had Jamar Chase.

It would have to be intentional to do worse than Sorensen.
