Seems like a lot of experience in Seattle, back to the original defense Shanahan wanted

Here comes the flip flopping on Staley lol.
I still think Staley sucks as a HC and that he'd be a bad fit trying to run his defense with the current defensive personnel but as a guy that is just there to pitch in and help out with the gameplan and be a sounding board for Sorsensen, I have zero issue with it.
. He's undoubtedly a smart coach which is why people like Fangio and McVay were so high on him but he also probably rose too quickly and didn't develop the way he needed to. In this role he's not the primary decision maker or the playcaller, he's just a guy helping out which is good for both him and the 49ers overall.

Not really flip flopping because he wasn't hired as the DC
There was a lot of criticism about his charachter and player relations.

Neither am I. Part of me thinks this is just a bridge until we can possibly hire Saleh back next offseason.
Considering we're trying to win a Super Bowl right now with absolutely no guarantees the following year, we can't afford a "bridge." That's a ridiculously stupid initiative if that's in fact what we're doing.

I don't think they're trying to just dump money on coaching contracts. Now if the hire is a disaster, Saleh could be an option (if he were to be fired himself).
Counting on a current HC to be fired and inking others to guaranteed multi-year deals worth big money with the plan to replace them after a year isn't it.

We call that the offensive line. Most of their offensive struggles in the past few years all come down to the same thing, struggles with the OL and inability to hold blocks when they really need them.
That's the biggest area I'm looking to see some sort of evolution in approach from Shanahan. They largely lost two SB's because they couldn't block Chris Jones. I want to see a greater commitment to building the OL now that they have a QB that they actually seem to trust and the gameplan doesn't have to be geared towards "protect the QB from himself" the way it was in previous years.
Agree but that doesn't tell the whole story. A misunderstanding of the blocking scheme cost
us the late TD, not an unskilled offensive lineman that just got blown through. There is merit to the "Shanny overthinks it" narrative.
if the linemen don't know who to block, perhaps it's the scheme
The lineman knew who to block. The lineman said he disregarded the assignment and went if his instinct and he ended up being wrong.
Maybe Merritt had something to do with it.

Right? Who here remembers a single contribution when Anthony Lynn was here? Anyone?

Burford literally said he didn't do what he was supposed to do. You can have the best scheme in the world, the best playcall ever but if every single player doesn't execute as required, it falls apart. That play had wide open guys everywhere, the lineman just blew it. Thats a possibility on any play and ultimately you want better talent to ensure better execution.

How would we even know? We weren't in the coaches meetings or on the sidelines.

Passing, especially in the red zone, is difficult. That's why you hand it to the best offensive weapon in the NFL and let him to his thing. Especially when you have a second year player at QB and backups and scrubs on the OL.

"block the man in front of you" seems like it would be hard to f**k up 🤷♂️.

Everything is difficult in the red zone. If the OL whiffs on a block when you run it, your RB gets smashed behind the line of scrimmage for a loss.
Burford wasn't being asked to do anything more than his job. They block Jones for even a second longer and that's a touchdown because everyone was open on that play.

Everything is difficult but passing is harder. That is not really arguable. Especially when you have backups in at the OL on an already sketchy line with a second year QB, and the super bowl on the line.
It would be smarter to just hand it off to the best player on the field. We beat the Packer and Lions by handing it to CMC in the clutch for the wins.
JH did the same thing vs. Baltimore and cost us a ring.
