Yep I believe you. It was clearly going around.

I think the whole thing is stupid anyway, because although we did play good defense for the bulk of the Super Bowl, the Chiefs offense has been average all season. It wasn't some unbelievably impressive performance that needed a wild explanation to account for.

I feel bad for Nick, seems like an awkward situation. Thanks for the link.

Gets a promotion, pay raise, and great opportunity to advance his career coordinating one of the most talented units in the NFL. Send a wellness check, lol.

Let me help you out. He was always the first choice. So good that we skipped over him last year to bring in a guy with a different philosophy. So good that we waited 3 weeks to hire him, even though he was sitting right there in the office next door. Based on some of the comments on the zone, the delay was either because he was on a 3 week vacation and we didn't want to disturb him or we wanted to satisfy the Rooney rule so we picked 2 random coaches to interview for kicks. But regardless, he was always the first choice.

Uninspired by these hirings but, it is what it is. Now with Sorenson already being on the defense and seeing the lack of pass rush and poor run defense, I'm curious to see what he's gonna do different?

I dont remember the Saleh and Ryan's hirings being to exciting either.

I was excited about the Ryan's hire

Rregardless.....excitement is not a required criteria for a successful hire.

Then why did YOU bring that up?

I didnt. Poster stated it was not a very exciting hire.

It is stupid. I agree. Truth was Wilks was gone regardless of the outcome of that game.

Can't believe they had a chance at someone who has 5 SBs and knows how to call defenses that stopped us in the SB twice AND stopped the undefeated Patriots. Kyle is such an insecure clown couldn't take the heat from that interview last week and decided to take his ball home and hire his little buddy instead.

what a joke.

How can one be certain that a career position coach who has never been a DC or play caller knows how to call a defense?

🤡

Has more SBs han Kyle. Nuff said

You didn't answer the question because we both know you can't.

Merrit has never called a defense so the reality is you don't know if he knows how to call a defense or if he would be successful as a play caller.

🤡

So what ? Why does it always have to be absolutes to all you Shanafans ? Don't fire Kyle. Why ? Because there is NO ONE that can replace him. Don't hire Merrit ? Why not ? Because he NEVER got hired before. Jesus, I get the love fest but get a grip. Sorensen never got hired as a DC either. So maybe he's not a good replacement for DC. But wait….let me answer for you. Sorensen has only been a position coach for 7 years while Merritt has been doing it for much longer. Since Merritt never got a promotion to DC, he absolutely must not be a good candidate for DC.

lol, the Shanafan mentality is awesome…

Merritt was offered the Giants DC job, but turned it down.

So why is Merritt better in your opinion? What insight do you have regarding Merritt and his style and what Sorensen presented?

Also, name calling isn't allowed.

Name calling is allowed here even though it's a forum rule.

Oscar would have done something about it back in the day. Times have changed.

How is it awkward? The 49ers hired James Bettcher at the same time as they promoted Ryans. That wasn't awkward and neither is this. Its reasonable to add experience to your staff if you're going to have a first time coordinator.

You have a link for the Merritt - Giants DC job story?

It's the establishment policy. Agree with everything Kyle says and does. Don't question because you don't know better. Don't replace because no one else knows better.

It's the newer younger fan base. The older folks (at least the majority of them) held the team to a higher standard. I didn't cry when Seifert was fired. I was pissed that he couldn't beat Green Bay, and this guy has 2 SB wins with us. Wasn't pissed when Mooch got fired, and he took us to the NFCC game his first year without Rice.

Now we have a guy that's lost 2 SBs and 2 NFCC games in 5 years and to question him is heresy because (A) supposedly nobody better exists in the coaching world and (B) he's a perennial 2nd place winner so it's ok.

Awful

you have no idea if Merritt is competent enough to be a coordinator. how come after 4 Super Bowls wins, he never got a DC job?

He was offered the NY Giants DC job and declined it.

when was that?

For the record, I think this guy is an idiot and I 100 percent would not put weight behind a comment based on his 'source(s).'

I do think it's reasonable to assume the possibility Kyle had more impact on the Super Bowl gameplan considering he was clearly out on Wilks and you have extra time to prep for the game.

Just as I suspected. NYNiner85 is full of it! Straight up lied to the Webzone.
