Commen sense. Staley was one of the first to interview. If he blew them away, why not just hire him as your DC on the spot ? What's the downside ? He's not getting a HC job anytime soon. Adding him as an AHC is an afterthought. Makes no sense except to undermine your underwhelming DC hire bc you need a backup just in case vs you don't think your scheme does enough so you're hoping to add some concepts to it.

It's such a dopey strategy, only Kyle would do it. Hire 2 DCs. A backup just in case option A doesn't pan out. Clown show 🤡

I can't take you seriously.

No one does.

Where is he gonna be HC after next year?

One of my issues with the hire. If he is good, he will get poached. Then we do this all over again.

Both Saleh & Ulbrich are likely to be available next year if that were to happen.

Cool how much of our talent will be gone by then?

It's far too early to be assuming Saleh and Ulbrich will be available next year.
There's a simple principle in which you cannot forget. Everything John Lynch touches turns to gold.

I have a rather avid gut instinct to believe Sorensen was gonna take a bigger paycheck elsewhere if he didn't walk out the door with the job. -There's a couple of rather nasty enemies in our division that would of loved to have had Nick Sorensen as DC/HC. This loyalty move also might convince Sorensen to stay put, and become the next Spagnuolo/Dick LeBeau. That's if...

IF!

Doubtful. But all the more reason why we should've gone for Staley instead. He's guaranteed not to land anywhere for the immediate future. This one two combo just doesn't make sense.

Im sure you are qualified to determine if the structure of an NFL coaching staff makes sense. Everything I read has been positive, even Florio liked the move and he never gives the 49ers credit.

Exactly. Everyone celebrating like we got our top choice SB here we come. They skipped Sorensen last year, then went after all their top candidates before settling on him. Not inspiring at all. And obviously Staley didn't blow them away with his interview, but they thought let's just add him to the mix for no reason.

Its a s**t show all around, but fans think this was a great achievement

Do you have a source for this other than it's just what you think in your own head? I mean, are you psychic? Did you install security cameras inside 4949. Please, do tell how you know the inner workings of our FO? I'm so interested to find out.

Common sense? Lol. Paging Dr. Dunning and Kruger.

What it is, is an uneducated guess, and a poorly reasoned one at that. You simply do not have the insight to know the process, yet you pretend to know.

Exactly. Aaron Rodgers, another year of adding talent and the dominant defense they'll be bringing back!!! I can see them probably second in that division. And that should mostly likely earn Saleh another year or two.

yeah, I have no idea why everyone assumes this. Saleh's team arguably overachieved last season, going 7-10 with Zach Wilson after their plan A, B all the way to Z blew up when Rodgers went down. had the #3 total yards defense.

LOL Sorensen... Staley, two Bay Area fan favorites who lost the "big ones".

These decisions were ultimately sort of tied to the last draft board connected to Adam Peters/Joey Bosa. This is either a "Hitler in Spring" season for Shanahan, or we're eclipsing the '18 Patriots. Whatever the moon should decide I reckon...

What the f**k are you talking about and who the f**k is that hockey player da f**k does he have to do with anything?

LOL 😆
Cool down season approaching? Lol
Call me negative nancy pants

On the front end of this will be new coordinator Nick Sorensen, the former NFL safety promoted from defensive pass-game specialist/nickels coach. Shanahan, I'm told, liked Sorenson so much in his first year on the staff, 2022, that he nearly promoted him to replace DeMeco Ryans last January. Shanahan stopped just short then, believing Sorensen needed just a little more time in the building. The head coach went through with it this time around, making a hire that has some parallels to that of Robert Saleh in '17—in that Saleh was also a bit of an unknown.

I am OK with it. I wanted no part of Staley tbh, but that was as DC. Now he's more like an advisor. He was a horrific HC and doesn't seem to have much bedside manners, but apparently is very good with x's and o's so I like where he is. He should benefit Sorenson. If he proves inept/toxic etc Kyle can easily put him in a corner.

Sorensen is def a last choice, but imo the logical choice. The only way we were bringing in an outside DC was if they can bring in their system and some of their people. It's fair to say this is a half baked approach, but our defense is talented and versed in a scheme so I also get where Kyle is coming from. I am curious how Sorenson does. Lets hope he does well.

Nice clip. Thanks. We should be fine. Bigger fish to fry on offense and this line then to freak out over this hire.
