I concur, I believe you have to know the game on a micro and macro level to succeed when you're not naturally ultra gifted. That's always been my view, at least. As well as an insane work ethic and pure love for the game.

Jeff Ulbrich is a pretty good example.

Ulbrich was a stud on that field man. I remember his very first game in college playing for Hawaii, I knew immediately that he was going to play on Sundays. He played at a different speed and just popped on the field.

That being said he wasn't super athletic, but definitely played with tenacity during those hard times with Arnez Battle(whos jersey I had) and Derek Smith
One thing I didn't agree with was not letting Tim Rattay play all of Alex Smiths rookie year. He really was decent, I mean he had the franchise record for most yards in a game but he didn't get away with those Tom Brady throw aways/spikes to where they would call them fumbles. smh
Whatever happened to the 3-S looks last year? I thought that was going to be a thing.

It sounds like Staley has his mark/tie to every FA we brought in and now there's talk of Hufunga not being a fit.

Are we expecting some hybrid 3-4/4-3 fronts with Fangio concepts?

Isn't the Hufanga thing more of a going back to what Seattle was running. Huf and Brown don't have the range of like an earl Thomas.

I'm not too sure but, maybe they like brown long-term and don't want to invest in Hufanga next offseason when he is a free agent. Might as well ride out 3 more cheap years of Brown.

Yeah, some C3 with long CB's outside and 1 really rangy FS. That's how I read into that as well.

Hmm, our safety visits have been rangy guys too. IDK..

I don't think that's their intention. It seems more that they're trying to add some of the elements that KC and Baltimore did to counter motions and reduced splits(aka Shanny offenses) with blitzes, cover 0 and simulated pressures. I think they want a safety that can play some man in those situations, and that's not really Brown or Hufanga.

I do expect to see more 5-man fronts next season although not necessarily 5 DL like Wilks tried to do. Both Saleh and DeMeco sprinkled in some bear fronts when necessary before they left where they'd put the SLB or the WLB on the line.

Ahhh, maybe that's what it is. Thanks!

Nailed it perfectly about Rattay. He's having a solid coaching career as a qb coach at OK State.

Interesting.

Lezbehonest Huff is a great safety attacking the line like a strong safety but has the instincts to play long as long as the play ends in 4 seconds. Brown is a great midfielder but young, Gipson can hang in the back but is old and at value.

Add a guy like Simmons, when we havent had two healthy safeties make it though a year in how long? Jump on that. Teams need 3 starting quality safeties now like they need 4 starting quality corners (including the nickel) or else they get exposed at the end of the season. Personally I think huff would of sniffed out some of those chief shinanigans had he been available, so lets find the ultimate center fielder in FA like SImmons... then the defense doesnt have to make a full pivot based on one injury.

Kyle is usually active in staying ahead of the curve when it comes to schemes, and I wonder where he will take the defense with a rookie DC that Kyle can pretty much tell what to do. There's an ability this season to take this defense in a multitude of directions with Koceruk and Staley in the building. If they adopt a very multiple scheme that tries to do a lot of different things, it could be an adventure for a rookie DC. I wonder if camp reporters are allowed to report things such as how the defensive front is lining up.

I certainly trust Kyle on his coaching hires but I'm really curious how this is going to look.
