Health is the biggest concern for me. I don't believe we have that luxury anymore of rotating fresh guys in on the DL.

Agree, and that was an Aaron Roger's that hasn't played in basically two years. But I like the pressures the 4 man line generated.

I thought our pass rush was the one part that was disappointing. We seemed to struggle to generate a pass rush although the jets were getting the ball out fairly quick.

We played great coverage, tackled well, and were really good in the run d department though.

One of the Jets turnovers was caused by the 49er pass rush. I think once Gross-Matos is 💯% - that will add to depth and the talent to the D-Line.

i was at the game but from what i remember jets passing was a lot of short passes and ARod got out the ball pretty quick
After re watching the game the pass rush was pretty quiet overall. Even when Rodgers took longer to get the ball out the protection was there. Versus the run Collins, Bosa, and Hargrave all had good games. Collins was a beast. So good to see penetration and a TFL on a run play. Elliot played well also. Only issue is depth without Kalia Davis. FF and Campbell took some bad angles on a few outside plays to Hall. If they had Greenlaw and Winters on the field the run defense would've been scary good. Not to mention Gross Matos, I don't think the run defense will be an issue this year. Pretty vanilla scheme up front. Not many twists or stunts. Looked like last year's rush. Not a ton of blitzing either. Odum needs to be sat down. Yaidom did well. Seems to me teams will pick on him when they go to 3 wr sets. Good start.

I saw the same. I wonder if they went Vanilla to see if the D-line could get pressure without stunts or twist. I think Sorenson will breakout more of the playbook as the season goes on.

It was only Odums first game starting but I feel like he's gonna be picked on the longer he stays out there. From what I can remember he did well in run support though.

Agree 💯%❗

That's pretty much how this defense was attacked last season too. Hopefully the defensive coverages are better matched up with the front seven pressures and line stunts.

Once the 49ers are in the lead, they ball hog on offense, and they zone drop on defense - with the occasional line stunts and blitzes. In other words, even with the incredible D-Line talent that they have, they still do (in essence) a prevent defense - i.e. keep the ball in front of you and don't let them get an easy score. You can do that when you are in the lead. Can't do that when you are behind though. That's when the blitzing and the pass protections come into play to help Brock overcome halftime deficits.

MUCH better.
one thing he's not asking Fred to do is carry seams to depths of 12 yards. That was the cutoff point I saw Wilks had for Warner and Greenlaw last year. That meant Fred was usually dropping pretty deep on early downs and had to make tackles in more space, less sideline to sideline. In this game, Fred's landmarks were much shallower - in the 8 yard range. It asks more of your corners and safeties to carry some of those seams or play with more divider rules, but you saw a lot fewer 3rd and shorts from the Jets.
The good thing about Odum is everyone understands hes only there till Huf gets back. He was never considered a full-time starter for a reason. Even with safety issues last year he was never really considered (I know hes had an injury, nonetheless)

Hes just too finesse for a safety. You can't try to avoid contact as a safety, yet he kinda makes tackles in a way that is clear hes afraid to get hurt. Makes sense how he shines in camp in terms of getting to the receiver/carrier but anything about tackling and Im just seeing missed tackles all over and iffy angles.

Hes like a finesse FS with eh range. He's only on this team because of ST.

I saw this as well. I'm not sure this wasnt a gameplan-specific thing as clearly (at least to me) the plan was to stop Hall and rushing attack.

I've noticed Campbell is not bad at dropping into zone, although his lack of speed could allow some QBs to dink and dunk to his zone

Floyd is a difference maker with our pass rush. When are the refs going to flag these olinemen for putting Bosa in a sleeper hold.

It may be the way he pass rushes. He does the sideswipe and knocks the OTs hands away from him and uses his superior quickness and strength to power through the OT body block. Other pass rushers use more speed and hence I think you can see the holds easier because they use a typical speed rush.

I.e. Bosa is a lot closer to the OT than a typical edge rusher when winning on a pass rush. Hence it's possibility harder for the refs to see the holds.

That's why I think that edge rusher opposite Bosa is so key, so Bosa gets more one-on-one looks. Easier to spot holds on those vs double teams.
