That is frickin horrible!!! Thank Odom, Campbell, Brown, Yiadom and Sorensen for this mess. Offenses don't give this defense any respect no more, see Sam Darnold and his 99 yard touchdown pass. Sorensen outta be ashamed of himself, Lynch too for neglecting the Safety position.

Quite frankly I think it's coaching and scheme 100%

I have seen zero creativity this year. Have we heard even a single comment from a broadcast team about a nice disguised call? I haven't.

Inexcusable for these results with our talent.

We run one-sided overload fronts for goal line and short yardage. We put strong safeties on WR1s. I've even seen linebackers and DL matched up with receivers sometimes.

We went from one bad play caller to another. Wilks would play guys 10 yards off on 3rd and 2. He had the famous all out blitz with mere seconds left before the half.

We made a change, but Sorensen so far is even worse IMO. He makes idiotic play calls for even larger stretches of the game than Wilks did, TBH.

IMO, I think it's actually both.

After all, the defense mainly the Safeties have been out of position, missing tackles and quite frankly the secondary and LB's have been making dumb ass penalties. You're right though, Sorensen has been uncreative and has shown he's just as bad a play caller than Wilks. But getting back to the players, you can't argue they went cheap in free agency while hoping for big rewards, like they've known to do. That s**t isn't working this year, I would like to see them trade and add some real players. $50 mil in cap space can't all be for Purdy, do something with it dammit!!!!

This once great defense is in trouble. They have a new coach and the DBs seem to be having trouble being in position. Is it the scheme? They also have a depleted LB group. Without Greenlaw it's not the same. No depth there either. The D line is now down one of their starters with no quality replacement. That puts more pressure on Collins and the edge rushers as well as the DBs on runs. The edge rushers aren't getting consistent pressure which makes it even harder for the DBs.

Put it all together and we have a very mediocre defense this year. We aren't going to see as many 3 and outs which means the offense is going to need to sustain longer drives. Everything is out of sync. The season certainly isn't lost but this team doesn't look as capable of turning it around and getting back to the SB. Too many important players are injured or off to really poor starts. Aiyuk and Williams are both playing subpar.

Lousy LB's (except for Warner)

Putrid secondary.

Overrated D-line

What could possibly go wrong?

I just watched Greg Cosell show and explain why the Vikings D is so effective. They show a 7 or 8 man front on every down which forces the offense to guess whether to hold a couple receivers in to block. They often end up dropping 2 or 3 back into coverage which is confusing to the QB. The secret to that success is they do it so well that the offense usually has ni time to adjust. It sounds and looks simple but the timing is key.

I wish they had Cosell on after every 49er game to explain but I know that won't happen.

If Staley has juice, NS probably isn't doing his best at calling his own shots... I'm not sure if I believe NS has the edge rushers chasing down WRs and maybe other things aren't coming Nick. I'm just speculating here and wondering if Staley has a lot to do with play calling than we know. I don't know if this dude will ever get on the right foot on his own.

They need to bench Yiadom and Campbell.

Maybe they should have gone with Lord Fangio. The Eagles D looks much better. I'm tired of this revolving door at DC. Fangio would not get poached and we would finally have consistency.

Campbell seems much thicker than he did when he entered the league. Dude used to be faster but now he can't cover and offers nothing but run support and I'm not even sure if he's doing that well there either.

The 49ers went to Nick Sorenson because he was an in house guy that would go back to the basics - rush with 4, blitz infrequently, stop the run. The issue is this front isn't as good as it was in the past. Sorenson needs to really reconsider what he's doing and consider completely reshaping the philosophy of this defense before it's too late. I don't know what the answer is. Perhaps more run blitzing on early downs to create pass rushing situations. Maybe run a 5 man front on every play like a lot of teams do. I don't know.
