Took a deeper dive into the 49ers blitzing and showed how it's helping everybody on every down. You also get a chance to see Nick Sorensen's creativity. Plus the formation that has the defense in hell through 4 games

Scheme is still too vanilla. Doesn't matter much against offensively deficient teams but can still be an issue against good teams or teams with great QBs

This defense is going to be average at best until Dre Greenlaw gets back and judging by what Lynch said... doesn't seem anytime soon.

Agreed. But it is more than one linebacker even if it is Greenlaw. The line is another weak part of the defense but the line did look good against the Pats.

49ers D-line played solid vs NE's 2nd and 3rd string O-line but couldn't do it vs the Rams 2nd and 3rd string O-line. But I guess that's the difference Brisset and Stafford makes.

Secondary is the weak part of the defense. Line just isn't otherworldly to make up for the secondary like in years past.

I really wish the 9ers would spend money at Safety, I really wish!!! Man looking at Atlanta's Safety duo I'm just in awe, frickin Justin Simmons and Jessie Bates!!! 49ers defense would look way different if they had those two. Sure Hufanga has been All-Pro, but he's given up a lot of catches and missed a lot of tackles too. Don't even get me started on Jaiyir Brown.

Hoping Saints tank over the next month so somehow they can get their hands on Tyrann Matthieu

I don't think Vanilla is the right word....
They have had pretty complex coverages, they have switched up how they match zone down to down, they have altered the line play..heck they have run 5 men on the line...
Most of the all 22 guys have pointed out younger and first year in the system players making mistakes leading to chunk plays....if anything....honestly....maybe the system should be a tad more simple.
I don't think the woes on defense have been Mano a Mano.... as in the other team is just better.....I think most of the issues have been between the ears of our defenders.
I don't know how much more complex the defense can get, but odds are...it would look worse not better....our younger guys are making mistakes now, I don't think that would improve adding more complexity to the defense.
I would suspect, if the guys can clean up the mistakes by repetition....this will fix itself as the season goes on...if we just have idiots on defense that can't figure it out....then they need to replace them.

Simmons was horrendous last night. Taking bad angles and beat in coverage repeatedly. They won but there is a reason he was a FA late in preseason

I think we should lower our expectations for the defense this year, it's not going to be like it was with Demeco, we don't have the personnel. We did see reasons for optimism last Sunday though, I agree with you about the Line looking good, it's a good sign. The rotation will get deeper with Davis returning, and if Anderson continues to play well.
I will be patient with my judgement of Sorenson, it's a transition for him, and as smart player who played the game for 10 years, he knows what works and what doesn't, it's going to be some trial and error. The hope will be that Sorenson can have to defense playing at a high level in the second half of the season, and hopefully the offense can keep us in it until then. I think that's reasonable.
I still think this team wins the NFC this year

Unless he turns it around strong later in the season I've already lost confidence in this dude. Hopefully, we bring back Saleh if he gets fired.
