Pretty much. Other than Bosa our DEs suck too. Our defensive talent is just not that good. We live off hype of past years but we have lost a lot of talent on that side of the ball.

We have Warner, Bosa, Ward, and Lenior. That's pretty much it.

I don't remember anyone taking shots at Wilks, i thought they respected him especially the DBs. His philosophy didn't match the D and players Kyle and John assembled, and he probably privately clashed with Kyle.

I remember this one came up after the SB loss:

Well that kinda speaks volumes right there. He won't say but we can say it, this guy is a joke. Go open a surfboard shop in SoCal lol we need a real DC. Dude sucks. Why do we keep hiring ppl that can't do much at all? Ridiculous lol

Kyle may have to do what John Harbaugh and other head coaches have done and relieve the coordinator mid season. It's not pretty, but if we lose to the Seahawks and go O for against our division, then a change must be made. Kyle and John need to have meetings with the defensive leaders and figure this out. The talent and $$ on that side of the ball isn't panning out. And the plays that have been made so far have been individual effort, not scheme or preparation.

The offense scored 16 points yesterday against one of the worse defenses in football. Right now I don't see this a DC problem. Clearly the team doesn't have the defensive players in key positions -- line, linebackers, and safety -- so I would be much more concerned with the DC if the team had the horses but wasn't producing. Right now I think that's more the case on offense. There is no reason why the 49ers should have been shut out on offense in the second half. That's nuts. Kyle needs to do some soul searching

The defense is one of the worst in the League on 3rd down. Bad teams should not be able to grind out sustained drives. Kyler Murray should not be able to throw up 4th down prayers and complete them.
When Moody went down the D had enough of a lead to do something and they let Arizon chip away at them without an answer.
KS has a lot to blame for the L, his 4th qtr play calling stinks, but that's another thread.

Something is very wrong with this D and it starts with the DC, and stops with the HC.
I have a feeling that when Greenlaw comes back the defense will take a step forward. Greenlaw at 70% is still a hell of a lot better than Campbell.
As more clips are coming out all I'm seeing is missed tackles after missed tackles. My god

I expect to see more of Dee Winters. He has speed and he flies around much like Greenlaw. He also did a good job in coverage yesterday.
He needs to take this gig seriously and hecan start with a haircut and a clean-shaven look and wearing slacks and a tucked-in 49er polo on the sideline. Enough of the grunge bill belichick bum look

Teams have done more with less.....

It is hard to say who is doing what "wrong"...outside of real obvious stuff like missed coverage or tackles.....the only thing we can point towards is the no one should want this result.

I think Bosa has screwed up plenty, but for all I know boss is doing exactly what he is suppose to be doing....but to my uneducated eyes...it looks like Bosa is failing to maintain the edge too often.

At the end of the day, they can't generate pressure on demand, they can't hold an edge, they can't stuff the middle, and they can't keep the offensive line off of the linebackers.

We know in years past...this defensive line wants to get pressure on passing downs, but also wants to control the passing windows to bait passes into passing lanes that have to go though linebackers in underneath coverage. Yet we seem to target DT that are bonified pass rushers and give up lateral real estate (random passing windows, escape lanes) in exchange for creating proximity to the QB.

In years past....On run downs, we seem to want a hat on a hat to hold the edge and let free LBers swarm to the run.

We are not getting any of that, if in fact that is still what the defense wants to accomplish.

most of our memorable drive stops this year seem to come from heroic one off plays by a solo defender, we just do not see 3 or 4 49ers converging on a pass or a run. In years past the mentality was always swarm to the ball..... heck remember 2 years ago....if a ball hit the ground...for ANY REASON....a defender picked the ball up... They treated any ball on the ground as a turnover and swarmed for a return. incomplete pass? Swarmed in for a fumble return...that is what the defense looked like.

The defense use to look highly organized, and in unison, today it looks like a bunch of people doing their own thing.

I dont know...but...I can't help but think we would be better off with less physically gifted defenders, if they were highly disciplined and had a high football IQ.

Anyways....two or three years ago, if you asked me to take a bet that it would be possible to have one of the worst defenses in the league with prime HOF defenders like Bosa and Warner, with solid CB, and a blank check book to sign highly touted pass rushers to fill the defense out.....then told me...the offense would also dominate the TOP to keep that defense rested....I would have taken your bet, and think you were off your rocker..... Goes to show how much I know...

I wonder if we are cross training any Corners at Safety? Renardo Green has played safety. Our top three guys are all strong safeties, and Odom is a special teamer. We need a true center fielder more than anything else.Gipson was always reliable🤐
K'wuan Williams come save us at nickle.......

WHY would he take it seriously when he's got Staley to support him..
Wasn't Staley plagued by fourth quarter collapses in LA? He brought it with him, Between him and Kyle we have a 4th quarter problem

Basically what we've been seeing from this defense since the start of last season.

It would take more than that to save this defense..

Ya, it's been our thing for several years now, even with Meco, Saleh, it was an issues. So I don't blame the DC for that, it's not his job. That's the position coaches that need to do a better job with teaching angles, technique, etc.
