Maybe Shanahan will go for it on 4th down more often. Staley was stupidly aggressive with the chargers.

Because this was his pregame speech every single time:

I get the point of what is trying to be made in that article/post but how annoying has it gotta be to do the whole bday thing. 52 players + coaches /staff + family + friends….its gotta be like everyday "damn, what 3 people do I have to remember to wish happy bday now too"

I have/had up to 132 people indirectly reporting to me (8 directly), the most I have ever had was 3 people with the same birthday. (HR handled all that stuff, not me personally)

I'd be upset if he was being hired to be the HC or defensive coordinator, instead he's just going to be another assistant involved with the defensive gameplanning.

A lot of posters seem to think that role is a "helper" for Sorensen when really it's a helper for Kyle I think. I'm sure he'll help Sorensen too but I'm not sure it's accurate to assume he'll be defensively focused.

Staley's secret code to Shanny (as to not tip the decision to opposing team),

when he does his warm up routine on hands/knees, that means go for it!

He'll be on the staff so he'll be a helper for everyone but given his background, he's definitely going to be more focused on the defense overall.

This says "hey Nick we are going to promote you, buuuuuut in case you can't do the job we got ole Stale here for a safety net."

And as far as the Birthday wishes go IMO grown as s men making millions of dollars should not be worried about a Happy Birthday.

Plus not really excited about this move.

This feels like when they brought in James Bettcher as senior defensive assistant in DeMeco's first year. It's not a bad thing to have a more experienced voice around to help out a first year coordinator.
Again folks, the title is totally different. He's Kyle's assistant.

Bringing coffee, donuts and holding his jock strap at times
Here's a press conference of Nick Sorensen as the Special Teams Coordinator in Jacksonville. To give you guys a feel for his personality..

You don't know that.

Sorensen was a given, IMHO, in terms of our M.O. But I didn't see Staley joining in combo. Interesting indeed. It's kind of a way to keep pressure on Sorensen while giving him help with Staley. And it acts as a pivot plan in case Sorensen falters and gives Staley time to learn the 49er way.

I hope that comes out. Sounds like something Lombardi might find and put out. Thanks for the info anyway. Good to know if true.

It was reported that Sorensen and Kyle were the guys game planning the defense for the SB (not Wilks).

Exactly. I think adding a good veteran defensive coach mind with play calling experience to go along with Nick is possibly a really good strategy.

Hope it works out.

Added plus is this gets Staley more exposure to our system and some different ideas on what we can do with it.

NYNiner, where do you see this reported?

If I recall, it might have been Ryan Hensley on twitter saying he heard from someone inside the building this was the case. There may have been one other person corroborating but it had been pretty hush hush from everywhere else.

So Kyle's bringing on a defensive guru to help him remember birthdays?
