Maybe Shanahan will go for it on 4th down more often. Staley was stupidly aggressive with the chargers.

This feels like when they brought in James Bettcher as senior defensive assistant in DeMeco's first year. It's not a bad thing to have a more experienced voice around to help out a first year coordinator.

He'll be on the staff so he'll be a helper for everyone but given his background, he's definitely going to be more focused on the defense overall.

Exactly. I think adding a good veteran defensive coach mind with play calling experience to go along with Nick is possibly a really good strategy.

Added plus is this gets Staley more exposure to our system and some different ideas on what we can do with it.
