Crying is all some posters know how to do.

Seriously. Just wait when the draft comes and all the crying comes because people aren't satisfied with pick 31, not a pick in the top 5 but pick 31

Haha they were crying about our high 4th round-valued kicker to no end.

Clearly an X's and O's mentor without the role of being a leader in the locker room. No issues.

Yup. Plus, if things go south with Sorenson we can just give him the gig. Its very risky hiring a noob to run a championship defense.

Just seeing who the author is tells me this will be a good read. Ted Nguyen is literally the only member of the local media who truly knows ball.

In Week 2, when the Chargers' defense was healthy, they held the Chiefs to only 20 points, their third-lowest points per drive average of the season (1.82) and Patrick Mahomes' second-lowest yards per attempt average of the season (6.71). The Chargers played man coverage at the second-highest rate (46.3 percent) of any Chiefs opponent this season, according to TruMedia, and Staley mixed up his coverages effectively to keep Mahomes out of rhythm. The Chargers also confused Kansas City's offensive line in key moments, resulting in quick pressures.

I had a hunch this had something to do with this hire. Shanahan sees Mahomes, Reid and the Chiefs as the one true threat between the Niners and #6. I think Shanahan wanted to find someone who can stifle the Chiefs and the fact that Staley had to go against the Chiefs twice a year for however many years he was with the Chargers, means he probably has a good idea on how to stop them.

If Staley was the better DC they would have hired him. I think it's even more risky to have your defensive coordinator watching his back the whole year.

I thought Vrabel was the KC Killer? That's pretty cocky thinking as well. No guarantee the 49ers or the Chiefs will make it back to the SB next year or even the next 10 years. I'd rather just have a competent DC and players that can adapt and man up respectably against any QB and any offense -- kinda like Spags did to Buf, Bal, and us.

Wasn't a good HC doesn't mean he is a bad DC.

compare his rookie year to the rookie year of The Great Robbie Gould (whom doesnt have the range the loser has on fgs like in the SB and whim no one else wanted, btw),... then come back with the data.

You may come away surprised.

Exactly. The reason he was hired as HC was because he did a good job as a DC. Same as Saleh. Same as Ryans . Same as a lot of NFL head coaches.

What does Robbie Gould have to do with anything?
Way too much overreaction on Staley. He'll be fine

I would've been pissed if he was hired as a DC, but thankfully he's not in a "leadership" role. The guy obviously has some good ideas, you don't get a HC position that early without merit. As an assistant I'm feeling optimistic about the hire. Hopefully him and Sorensen work well together.
