He's kinda like the Gross Matos of DT. Both good athletes and the production has been a lil meh. Matos is on the edge, so he commands more $$

Didn't work last year. Unless wilks was hampering him

Lliterally every single D lineman looked worse. Even Chase looked worse than he did in Washington.
Yeah but we also did absolutely nothing to help the lineman. Everything was wide 9, direct line to qb, contain pocket.

Rarely saw an outside blitz. Rarely saw a stunt. Rarely saw the DE allowed to take a wide line outside. Our concepts worked against QBs like Hurts. But against guys like Goff that aren't going anywhere, needes to be more unpredictable and create chaos. We saw what Spags did against us. Blitz from different areas of the field. Move lineman around. Force the ball out quick.

Now that we see what an elite player like Danielle Hunter got(2 yr 49mil), these below tier signings that chew up a decent amount come into view, especially with the years matching up so well in this scenario.

What would you rather have:

Option A:
Elliot - 5mil
Odum - 5mil
Gross-Matos - 9mil
Floyd - 10mil

or

Option B.
Hunter 24.5mil
+an extra $4.5mil to put somewhere else

And Hunter goes down in camp with an injury. Then what?

This is what I was going to say. We need depth pieces. Not a single 20+ million guy.

On another note, I like this D line on paper. Just need two run stuffers and we are as well rounded abd as strong of a D line on paper as we were 2019 - 2021.

Hunter is virtually impossible to cut, of the $49M, $48M is fully GTD, no way the 49ers were giving that kind of contract out.

That part too. Ideally I'd like for our number of big contracts to go down, not up. Which means we have to hit in this draft and need more of our 2022 - 2023 picks to come through.
I like the Elliott and Campbell signings. That kid who played for Carolina too ( can't pronounce his name yet)😂... now we just have to pray we get O line help in the draft

Boom

The list includes Soloman Thomas. List invalid.

Thomas has turned into a solid rotational guy. Probably had a career year with the Jets lol.

Honestly, I was hoping the team would draft and develop some D lineman. Considering they traded for Jordan Willis, Charles Omenihu, and Samson Ebukam, and they were 3rd, 5th, and 4th round picks respectively, I figured we could develop some homegrown talent on low cost contracts. I guess the team wanted more of a sure thing. I take this as our floor as a D line is higher.
Turns out Elliott's deal was 2-years, $7M($3.5M APY), $2.325M signing bonus, no other guarantees, not even his 2024 base salary is GTD, deal has 3 void years though.

2024- $2.14M cap hit
2025- $3.465M cap hit

But it's only a 2 year deal. How likely is a player of his caliber to get cut before 2 years. His cap hit 14.75 and 24.75 for the two years. Not that bad.

Terrible deal, we could've signed Hunt for 100 mil instead!

The deal is a 2yr deal, with 2 void years in it, https://overthecap.com/player/danielle-hunter/3936, $48M is FULLY GTD, he has injury issues/concerns in the past, just because he's a high talent doesn't mean he wouldn't be cut if he looks bad, or gets hurt, we've seen good/great players get jettisoned after 1yr cause they were horrible, no way were the 49ers, nor would I give out that deal to a 30yr old player.

You can definitely give out that kind of deal if you have plenty of cap to spend. I'm sure Hunter is going to be somewhat better than Floyd, but the reality of it is we can't afford it.

Well the 9ers just gave out a 40mil guaranteed contract to a 30yr old last year in Hargrave.
