Even if he just improves the special teams there is value in that.

That's the wrong Chase to sign. Or is it?
I hope he knows how to play right tackle too.
He's more of an ST guy I take it. I have no recollection of this dude in the conference championship game.
who?

Free agency is where you can spend 16 million per year on Mike McGlinchey. At least wait until day 2 of the draft is over before you spill this nonsense.

Yeah, the 49ers were never gonna give $20M a yr to Robert Hunt, or anywhere near that for any other OL FA, it's ridiculous money that we'd regret in 2yrs, our cap is fine as it is now, but adding a splashy signing would hurt it big time, need to save the money for BA, Brock, & Mooney.

Robert Hunt wasn't the only OL that went in FA. He was just the most expensive (this year of 8 off seasons).

I hear this every year like last year with Joe Thuney. Had we bought Joe Thuney for RG over Hargrave or Orlando Brown for RT, we'd have #6 right now and security at this position long term.

Hargrave is a quality player but he didn't move the needle one bit. In fact, the rush defense went from 5th to 26th last year. And we still made the Superbowl. It made no difference.

The 49ers weren't giving the kind of money that Thuney got, which wasn't last year, it was like 2yrs ago, and Brown was crap this past season, overpaid, and he wasn't playing RT, he made it clear he was a LT not a RT.

Hargrave had a good year in what was a bad DL, he's not the only reason why the DL was bad, needle mover, so what? I'm so sick of fans thinking we can have high paid players at every position, or 53 all pros, fact is we lost, now get over it, and start over for 2024. You know as well as I do, the 49ers don't pay Guards the kind of money they're getting, $16M a year is ridiculous, $20M is outrageous, but let me ask, so $16M which is what I think Thuney got, is same as McGlinchey, so you would give a G $16M, but not a T? McGlinchey we all know sucked, but the team wasn't giving another T $20M+ a year, not when Trent isn't retiring IMHO anytime soon.

And that's just part of the problem why they're the prettiest bridesmaid every other year. They don't learn from their mistakes. Like a number of our own fans, despite the evidence right in front of their faces year after year after year...

If they did sign a Guard at say $16M a year, they lose someone key, is losing BA, Mooney, or anyone else worth a freaking Guard at $16M+ a yr? That's outrageous, Feliciano did a damn good job for the 49ers last year, him at just under $3M is a steal, no way I'm giving any Guard $16M+ a yr, or Brown $20M+ a yr when he said he wouldn't play RT, he clearly said he's a LT.

TBF, I'm not talking about just this past FA period. I've been perfectly fine with every player they brought in even if they continue to prioritize the DL instead of protecting Brock. Feliciano and Banks are one-year players like all the DL we buy on 1 year contracts. They'll be doing it all again next year. That's not a solution. Just like it's unlikely any rookie we draft this year is the immediate solution.

We'll see though. I'm not looking to the draft for our OL solutions given the clear patterns of this FO (very predictable). Hopefully they nab one though in a deep OL class.

Paying Gs big money is just not how you build a sustainable roster. Gs are one of the most interchangeable positions on a team. Only time I would ever be for spending top money on a G is he better be a difference maker like a Larry Allen. If the Ts are good, or if the C is good, there's rarely a good reason to spend a lot on Gs.

On top of that, you don't spend / invest a lot in an OL when Jimmy "hand it off to the RB" G, is your QB. We'll see now how they approach it with Purdy since he looks like the real deal. I definitely expect 2 early OL picks now.
