You guys celebrate all these one year contracts like it's some kind of accomplishment. In actuality, it's a sign of desperation. We're just throwing s**t at the wall and seeing what sticks. This is the last year for this core of players before we start blowing s**t up. There's a good possibility that once 2025 roles around and we're still SBless, Trent retires, we lose Deebo, CMC starts to trend down, and age rears its ugly head for a lot of players. Shanahan will be going into what, year 10 without having anything to show for it.

I'll reserve judgment on whether this strategy will work (no I won't, I don't think it will). But it kinda reminds me of 1994 when the Niners went out and signed a bunch of guys to s**t contracts to get over the hump. Except that was a monster team primed for SB glory with great players and coaches that just needed to beat Dallas. After this year's playoff debacle(s), I hardly doubt guys like Yiadom and Campbell are the Deions and Norton Jr we're looking for.

I don't think football is your sport.

Have you considered a less complicated sport to follow?

Saints are severely cap strapped last I heard but perhaps that's changed. If not they can't afford to pay mor Ethan other suitors or even attempt to bid against them

Also this guy may have wanted to try his luck in a prove it year here

One year contracts are really popular all around the NFL right now, it's mutually beneficial for teams and players

If a player gets hurt he is F'ed. But going year by year is the ultimate gamble on yourself too. IMO it favors the owners more than the players overall.

So you are saying we should sign these dudes to multi year contracts and be stuck with them if they suck or don't live up to expectation?

I'm a fan of one year 'prove it' deals for players that still need to prove it. This guy has been a journeyman type player, and has had half a season of consistent play after bouncing from team to team (5 teams in 6 years). Maybe he blossoms and likes it here in SF. Maybe he blossoms and leaves for a rich contract (yay, comp pick). Maybe he comes back down to earth and is just a good STer and an average depth CB.

Reports are they think this guy is the starter. But based on what? He hasn't always been a starter with prior teams. I don't mind adding depth. But I don't get the starter thing here.
