We need both!!

Carry one on the practice squad, emergency QB?

I would do this with Allen, if another teams grabs him off the PS. Who cares???

Can't have one of them occupying a roster spot all season just to watch. If this happens we probably have to cut a good player in order to keep all three QB's on the roster.

I say we look to see if there is any Trade interest with Allen. If not, then we attempt to put him on the PS.

Great points. I really do think Lance can play like Dobbs, eventually. He just needs some reps like Dobbs got over his career. Love the way Dobbs played yesterday.

I was thinking the same thing. He definitely can run better than any of the other QBs on the roster. Dobbs is no rookie and maybe his experience is finally paying off.

I think it takes a certain amount of reps for a QB to get up to speed. It's different for each person or QB. In Dobbs case - the first 3 years were zero, then his 4th year he explodes. Also, you factor in a combo of right system and coaching too.
He was good in a backup role last year so it doesn't surprise me. He's very athletic and can throw accurately.

Didn't Dobbs lead the Cards offense on a 99 yard drive against our "vaunted" defense last year ?

I thought Dobbs was impressive in that game

" When DOBBS Cry " will be good for this team.. he's very intelligent and will be a very solid back up who we can trust ..

What did you think of Tanner?

I see Tanner as a solid player... for the Memphis Showboats.. he can gain experience there, and may be... or lets hope that he can be a solid back up in the NFL when he's around 28 or 30ish.. I remember watching him at Wisconsin, very smart, but, just not NFL ready yet..

Josh " When DOBBS Cry " should run away with the #2.. he's a very good #2 who can really win games.. he's supposed to be an intelligent human being too.. we can just sign him for the rest of his career and we'll be forever good on that spot..

I think both Tanner and Dobbs have the physical talent play in the NFL. I think both can be starters, Dobbs is ahead of Tanner for sure, but if both continue to improve - I think they can play in the NFL for a long time like BeatHard and Mullens. Now whether either of them can become a top flight elite starting QB, that's quite a ways down the road. But I hope so. That helps us in compensatory picks down the road and possibly trades for future draft picks.

Brock is a lock at QB1, but if either Tanner or Dobbs can get us a future extra day three pick, it was worth signing both onto the team.
Substituting him in on certain plays would give DC's big problems.

He's a perfect #2 for us
Like him so much better than Sam.

I've seen precious little of 9ers this season, but did get an eyeful of Dobbs after Brock's first qtr. Don't know if the playcalls were better for Dobbs than for Brock but of the two, Dobbs looked better. I know, PS game, different players in for each QB, and same for the opponents defense. Still, Dobbs put on a clinic, and he looked good in getting out of trouble, made nice throws, nice reads, is quick, and really looked like a guy who was a starter before.

All I can say is our QB backup is going to be one heckuva lot better than last yr. Dobbs can play… also , the fact he is so smart is a huge plus. He really looked like he knew what he was doing when he was out there. Terrific pickup for us. Last yr you had to hold your breath every time Brock got tagged… this yr, we have a genuine backup…who could start at a number of places in the league.

Kyle isn't as stupid as you think.

I do too. The extra run element to his game is real nice, and given how many great skill players are on this team, his ability to create on his own with legs is pretty big.

If you told me before last year Id feel more comfortable with Dobbs as #2 than with Trey Lance I would have laughed so hard. And yet here we are lol
Dobbs takes Sam's job at MIN next season?

Trade interest in just Allen!!! Shoot I'd trade any back up QB now that Purdy is settled in as the franchise QB!!
