He may very well have asked for a trade. That doesn't mean we didn't want to trade him.
We aren't eating money and selling a QB we want to keep to a conference rival for a 4th round pick, after paying him 20+ million dollars, simply because he asked.
He sucked. We moved on and got what we could get for him.
I didn't say we wanted to trade him. Fact is we did. YOU speculated he didn't ask for a trade and I just provided you source material that he did ask for it and I provided context and reasoning in which he would.
don't want to turn this into more Trey talk.. but more so into the mind of Kyle.
Trey knew he wasn't going to beat out Brock, because of what Brock did the previous year. Trey said this himself. He thought he would get a fair shot competing for the back up job. Most of OTAs and practices, at the time had local reporters saying Trey was neck and neck with Sam or better than him. So what was left? Proving it on the field during preseason. There was a rotation Kyle wanted.
First preseason game, Trey went first but playing with backups... second preseason game Sam got to start, but he got to play with the starters... Trey came in late after... but once again, had to play with the back ups. 3rd preseason game, it was Trey's turn in the rotation to start...and play with some of the starters. But before he could do that, early in the week Kyle made the decision that Sam got the back up job. Of course Trey was pissed... left practice right? Then when he returned Trey then asked Kyle if he can play his way into the back up job during the regular season through practice. Kyle said no..or its unrealistic because he wouldn't get any snaps. Kyle basically told him it would be better if he were in another situation to get reps. Because it wasn't happening here. Kyle knew what he was doing. If yall remember, in that 2nd preseason game when Sam played late into the 3rd QTR was it? the fans were chanting Trey's name to get him out there.
Even though everyone and they momma knew Brock was the starter, and even if he struggled a bit...it was still his team... Kyle wanted to make sure there were no distractions of who's team it was. Trey was drafted to be the future... there were alot of #5s jerseys out there already. Although I felt it was important to have as much good QBs on the roster, since what happened in Philly....I still understood why Kyle wanted to get Trey off the team. I just didn't like the approach. It seemed like he wanted to make sure Sam was physically fit to be on the team, and to make sure Sam made it through preseason healthy...all that before getting rid of/pressuring Trey out.
So yeah Trey had a reason to want to be off the team.. but I'm sure he didn't think he would get traded to a team like the Cowboys who have a starter and a reliable backup already. He was better off getting traded else where, but the Cowboys gave up a higher pick.
