Welp with this move..this is the first season in a while I feel comfortable making a playoff run (besides the 2021-22 season)....not being worried if we lost the starter for a few games during the season.. or needing a backup to make a playoff start.

I watched most of his starts and he shows his potential...but eventually he started feeling himself too much and got careless with the ball... but during his play, he made some passes that you wouldn't expect a backup QB to make. I'm sure the coaches will drill into his head where he eff'd up, and he'll look better with us than the Vikes.

Great pickup imo.

Did you watch him play?

they benched him for Jared hall, a rookie who played like total dogs**t.

f**k, they benched him for Nick Mullens!

I DO NOT feel comfortable with this guy seeing action as our qb.

seriously, did any of you ACTUALLY watch him play?!
It's a great signing for a guy who is at least as good as Sam Darnold.
He started off really well then regressed pretty quickly. I'll trust Kyle on this.

In no way/shape or form is he as good as Darnold. If he was, the Vikings wouldn't be giving Darnold $10 million.

He's a great locker room guy, awesome dude off the field but I hope he never plays anything more than garbage time snaps.

The coach who traded for Dobbs last season just paid Darnold a lot more money. He's probably an idiot though.

Right because the salary a team gives a player is indicative of how good they are .

Darnold is a massive TO machine that looked like absolute dogs**t against the backup Rams.

You can argue that Dobbs in 2023 had more regular season success than Darnold ever has in any year.

Don't forget that Dobbs had zero prep time or TC with the Cardinals or the Vikings.

Yeah, usually. Darnold isn't great by any stretch of the imagination but if I have to play someone I'm taking him. And clearly the Vikings agree and they already had Dobbs in the building.

We would agree too. We paid Darnold ~ 5 million with incentives up to ~ 11 million.
I mean, I'd rather have Dobbs at 2.25 than Darnold at 10 per, that's for sure.

My biggest issue with this Dobbs signing isn't the player. He has low ceiling but his running ability and short passing game of dumping to YAC guys can keep this team afloat a game or two. It's the fact that we are very cap strapped and the more prudent financial move would be to just draft a qb and save some doucats for elsewhere.

Professionals around the league make massive mistakes in their evaluation process in every transaction they make.

Every year there are FAs who get paid way more than they should. Darnold just keeps getting a shot because of his physical traits and draft status. The Jets and Panthers gave up on this guy. 2 teams who have been QB starved for decades. What does that tell you about how those professional decision makers felt about him?

I'm not saying Dobbs is the light years ahead of Darnold but he's been about as effective as Darnold was and more recently than Darnold has.

"The Passtronaut"

He interned at NASA and graduated with a degree in aerospace engineering. Might very well be the most intelligent 49ers QB ever.

So he's not fully committed to football. That's how I read it.

I'm not saying Dobbs is light years ahead of Darnold but he's been about as effective as Darnold was and more recently than Darnold has. Again, Darnold just keeps getting a shot because of his physical traits and draft status. If I had to win one game I would rather roll with Dobbs than Darnold.

You're making a value judgement based on what the Jets and Panthers did, which is in conflict with what your own team and the Vikings have done since.

Does that seem intelligent to you?

I'm not sure you understand. The point I'm making is that if you want to base your opinion on the transactions and decisions of professional teams then you should also go back and see how other professional teams view said player's value. Is that easy enough for you now?
