Yea but I don't see any flashes of first round talent at all

He was a luxury pick in a time when we had bigger needs on the OL and DL.
Poor asset management. Pick would have been understandable if they shipped out Aiyuk and/or they ship out Deebo this off-season.
But he needs to be better. And I will no longer use the gun shot as an excuse. That was 3 months ago.

I think its important to note. His first 3 games
18 targets
11 receptions
132 yards 1 TD
39 yard rush
The passing game the last 3 games has a total of 450 yards. The offense in general has been s**t. He has been open at times but haven't gotten the ball and I think that is because he missed most of training camp, all of preseason, and several games. Purdy is a rhythm and timing QB and they haven't developed that chemistry. Look at how off the Purdy to Aiyuk connection was this year. He's also rarely the 1st or 2nd read on any given play.

Nice to see some context vs "bust, sucks "

Piersall hasn't really had a chance to learn and fit into the system. It will take a full offseason and TC for him to begin to show up.
This pick is going to haunt us for a while. We passed on some really good offensive lineman.
I liked Cooper Dejean or DVondre Sweat. I know a lot of people were high on JPJ or Frazier And we could have likely had them with a trade down to boot.

I think they picked him because they were looking aheand to next season when they would have to move on from Deebo or Aiyuk. Then Aiyuk got injured so now they probably don't have the option of trading him so Deeo is probably gone. You can't start calling Pearsalll a bust since it's been a crazy season for the whole team. Since his training camp was interupted he missed out on a lot. Camp is where rookies really learn

Though the FO never mentioned it, that was certainly in play at the time of the draft. Multiple sources said the BA situation was different than Deebo or Kittle's. It was clear Aiyuk was willing to leave if he could find a place he liked, and ample suitors were interested. Hence, they drafted a guy who was a precise route runner similar to Aiyuk. Of course, we know of his injury problems during TC and missed critical time to learn the system, none of which could have been predicted. (I was hoping for an OL but in reviewing the choices available against the team OL needs, I believe Piersall was the best value in that slot...but that is a conversation long gone.)
The snow in Buffalo negated his quickness in route running and made the lack of targets understandable. Last night was a game for the strong, vertical players, not quick, shifty ones. Buffalo had multiple options in that type of player, the 49ers did not.

No it was a pick for what they expected to need in 2025. That's one year not 3. I'm sure if they felt there was an O lineman sitting there that could help them immeditely they might have taken him. When you draft #31 overall it's about the same as a high 2nd rounder so I don't get too hung up on the fact that it was their first round pick. He may have been able to contribute more if he hadn't lost all that time after getting shot. We'll never know for sure but I'm positive Kyle didn't know he would get shot.

Does ignoring obvious needs this year in favor of possible needs next year seem wise to you?

You don't know that. Guys you like were on someone's draft board. Maybe not on theirs. Not all linemen are a fit for every scheme. Every team doesn't view players the same way. Maybew your extensive scouting department had better info.

If that was the case then they should have just traded BA and not waste the whole offseason dicking around
