No way he's the slot CB, IMO he'll battle with Yiadom, & Ya-Sin for the outside CB opposite of Mooney. DMo needs to stay as the NB/Slot CB IMO, he's getting better, plus maybe it'll help to retain him as a FA, slot Corners don't get near what outside CBs do, hoping to god we can extend both Mooney & DMo long term, that $18m coming in June will help when they carry it over to 2025, makes them fit Brock, BA, Mooney, Deebo, p,us keep either DMo or Dre, plus Ward is set to count $12.2m in dead money in 2025 due to void yrs, hoping they do something soon, where they can get his '25 cap number near or little under the $12m, plus save cap room this year, BA extension saves up to $8m.

The starting nickel doesn't necessarily mean the slot CB. It moreso means he comes on the field when we are in the Nickel formation.

Agree with AB, he'll be competing with Yiadom for the outside CB spot in Nickel formations

What did Maiocco mean by "starting nickel"? Last season, Ambry was the nickel CB but he wasn't the slot CB. Meaning Ambry came onto the field when the 49ers were in the nickel package, but he played outside CB while DeMo went to slot CB.

It's possible Maiocco meant that Green would take Ambry's role - come in for nickel package, but play outside CB.

That would make more sense if that's what he means. Has to be an upgrade over Ambry same if Yiadom or Ya-Sin wins the spot.

That makes sense too, I don't completely get how the current scheme works, for so long we were a 3-4 D under the Harbs era, but my mind/brain is shot, I forget things way too easily, due to the meds I take.
Our secondary is so much better than it was last season. We get Huff back and we added Malik and Green in the draft. And plus signed a couple of DB's in free agency who I feel are upgrades over Ambry Thomas. This Secondary is now loaded IMO. To the point that Luter, Womack, and Ambry might not even make the team unless they really Impress. Luter I think makes it though and he should make a jump in year 2. Ambry and Womack are in trouble though.

lol. We were basically posting at the same time.
I am picking Ren to be one of my favorite players in the draft. I believe in Green
Hufanga wasn't very fast before his injury so let's hope his ACL injury doesn't slow him even more.
He is imo the most important pick in the entire draft, as silly as it sounds.
If he's a hit and can be an above average outside CB starter in the league, this draft is probably a success. Potential high ceiling at a premium position.

Huff isn't expected back until November or December

ACL tears are a long recovery

Not for everyone, Jerry came back the same season.

Start of camp is over 8 months post injury. Modern recovery time is more like 9 months. Probably eases in to it at first, but it is not that crazy that he'd be at camp.
