Our secondary is so much better than it was last season. We get Huff back and we added Malik and Green in the draft. And plus signed a couple of DB's in free agency who I feel are upgrades over Ambry Thomas. This Secondary is now loaded IMO. To the point that Luter, Womack, and Ambry might not even make the team unless they really Impress. Luter I think makes it though and he should make a jump in year 2. Ambry and Womack are in trouble though.

Huff isn't expected back until November or December

ACL tears are a long recovery

all depends on how bad it was. Some are career ending and others can come back in 7-9 months. Never know.

Hufanga isn't going to be out until November. That would mean an entire year of no action. He got hurt in mid November. ACL recovery isn't that long, and his was a clean tear with no extra damage so he was expected to have a simple rehab.

9 months max is the recovery time which even at that length would put him on track to return to action by end of July for training camp.

Yeah ACL used to be a year recovery, now it's down to 7-9months, especially if it's just a clean ACL tear and nothing else. I expect Huf back to start the season, but don't sleep on mustapha. I think he could push Huf for the starting job. Him and Green were slam dunk picks imo

Sign I'm getting old...ACL used to be career enders

Then it became 1 year (which I was assuming in my original post)

I haven't updated my internal notes to a 7-9 month recovery yet

I've heard minimum time after surgery was a 9 months to a year, then again I guess it depends on the severity of the injury. I could've sworn (but of course could be wrong) that Nick Bosa was back around middle of August, which would put him at around 10-11 months? I have to expect the same.

I recall reading Huff had a super clean tear and they expected a full recovery in the faster time frame. I think Kyle or John mentioned that right after his surgery.

Yeah one of the most recently studies I've seen from journal of sports medicine in 2016 said for nfl players the average is 8-10 months. The fastest I can remember is Amari Rodgers played in a game 6 months post ACL surgery.

Jerry Rice tore his ACL and MCL in week 1 of 1997 season and returned in December of the same season.

Also remember ACLs while medically have a ~9 month recovery time +/- a month or two... it can become a mental game for the player. Full recovery is when the player gets that confidence in his knee again to the point it's not even a thought in their head. Something as simple as barometric pressures changing due to weather can add a mental hurdle due to little aches and pains even if the player fully medically recovered.

I was about to bring it up- he came back in 3 months. I remember that game so well because I believed we could win another Super Bowl after we smoked Denver. Defense was elite and we had a running threat with Hearst.

As for Huff, I hope we can sign him for 2025. But depending on how Mustapha looks, it might be his final year.

A+ draft grades ruh-roh

Thats my point. What have these "A+" draft grades the last few years done for the Seahawks & cardinals? It's fun to discuss but games are played in the fall, not during the draft. Good for these teams that mel kiper likes their picks I guess??

Im pretty sure we got an A or A+ in 2017 and the two guys who saved that draft (Kittle and DJ Jones) probably got no attention.

Why inside? They want Demo outside?

Because they want him to learn the slot, he already has lots of experience outside, but no experience inside

He played inside for 2 years in college before moving outside
I think they just want to see what he can do in the slot regardless of where they think he will end up

No. he played safety for two years in college, not slot
"We've seen him play outside and we know he can play outside, but he's also wired the right way to play inside," Shanahan said. "Just doesn't have a lot of tape of it" (because he didn't play slot nickle)

And he fractured his kneecap that same gamd.

Huff is more about reading plays and recognition and his game doesn't really rely on elite physical ability. Still though, it's hard to come back as a safety with that injury.

Outside CB importance >>> Nickle CB

Demo has proven last year he can play the outside CB at a high level, he had to go slot because no one else could. So if Green can play inside CB well, it would be huge to have Demo/Mooney locking down the X/Z receiver.
