They never go best player available in the 1st RD. Unless it's a slam dunk pick like Bosa was. They drafted Trey because they wanted a QB badly and went with the guy with the best athletic tools. Unfortunetely it turned out to be a bad draft class for QB's as none of them were any good. They drafted Kinlaw because they wanted to replace Buckner. Drafted Pearsall because they weren't sure if BA was staying. Kyle and John just need to go BPA in the 1st RD regardless of whether or not it's a position of need.

Amen. They really reach on their 1st rounders.

When you draft 30th or later 1st rounders are kind of a reach. Talent wise they could easily be 2nd rounders. No matter where you draft it takes a certain amount of luck. In the end it doesn't matter who ends up being really goos. !st, 3rd, 5th or 7th. As long as they can play it doesn't make a differnce where they were drafted. Look at 5 of their best players. Bosa (1st round). Warner (3rd round) Kittle (5th round) Purdy (7th round) Jennings (7th round).

I know we always like to see them get a better draft pick but does it really make that much difference? So many fans think they suck at drafting anyway.

What needs to happen is start using the "Bill Walsh book of drafting in the NFL". If the player available is not a sure thing (Jerry Rice), then trade down and get more bodies and probably better players. And since the Niners draft better in the later rounds, it gives them more picks that turn out to be steals

I'm all for that but they still need to find someone to trade with. Ideally it's someone that has early round picks so when you trade a 1st you get a 2nd and 3rd that are still decent players. Something like that.

There's always going to be traders who feel like they're the smartest person in the room and may make a screwy deal
3 games left, might as well try him at LT and RT

Should actually put him on ice till next season
Clone two of him to play LG and center, draft a future replacement for Trent and LFG!
Absolute homerun of a draft pick. Find a few more like him in the next draft.

Damn imagine if we had both.
Is there a possibility of moving Puni to center and we take a OT and OG on day 1/2?

Why would you move a Pro Bowl level player anywhere? He has proven to play great ball at Guard. Leave him there. We have a huge need there anyway. Draft at Tackle and Center or free agency. He doesn't need to be moved anywhere. He just learned the position and is great.

They need to improve in the early rounds. They have got lucky in the later rounds but that is not sustainable. This is the first year since Lance we have a good position and can't afford a Kinlaw or Solomon Thomas.

Truth.

Not at all, it's easier to identify talent in the earlier rounds because those are the more talented players. The fact that the Niners are the best team in the NFL drafting in the fifth six and seven rounds not to mention undrafted FA's is absolutely amazing.
